TONEdef TONE Mag 1st year anniversary - The Warp

Who would have guessed..after almost 6 months of inactivity in the band and with Moez still in England, we contacted our friend Bakri and asked him if he could help us out by sessioning a short song set for the gig! He didnt mind that he was already the drummer for Flop Poppy, OAG, Yor Mom and Nervewreck..he still agreed! Plus, Victor came back from China for a couple of weeks (quite similar to Pablo coming back from Chile to play for Prana) and we had the lineup complete. So we called up TONE and asked (begged) them for a small space in their already very tight band schedule (Both bands and hip hop acts to celebrate the local urban scene revolution, like TONE describes it. There was a crowd made up of all sorts of people in the place, and the Warp was as packed as it could ever be, with hardly any space left to walk, anywhere. I'd say, nearly 5000 people!) So it turns out that we had two days before the gig (it was on sunday, July 28) and very little time to practice! We jammed five hours in two nights, the last jam session being from 2 to 5 am on sunday itself! Due to the short notice of our inclusion in the gig, Lyme was not in the flyer or in any advertisment, which is not so bad. :) Sorry though to some people, who were asking later how come nobody told them we were playing. Anyways, the songs were done. We were opening with The Trees (Woodcraft), one of our two new songs. Lymeus Delta was working as good as new, and the sound the PC synth made was nice and clean, but alas, the crowd could hardly hear it in the mixing. The Trees ended up being kinda chaotic (in fact, around the middle of the song we got so lost that we almost stopped playing!) but we managed to pull it off later by playing the song from the Family Day compilation, Things that go bump in the night (Halloween song), which Bakri was much more comfortable with. Once the song was done I had a chat and had fun with the crowd and informed you all about Lyme's album finally making it to its release this August and Love me Butch debut coming out the same month. We prepared for our last song for the set, Keropok, which turned out quite alright! As soon as the song was finished we had a very pleasant surprise by the people, when they all started shouting in choir "we want more!" I swear I had not been that happy for almost a year! We had a quick discussion together and decided to make a "laughing finale"! I told everyone to laugh with me and we played the ending of the Halloween song (where the monsters and goblins start laughing) and passed the microphone around for the crowd to laugh out loud! I did a very happy crowd surfing and soon it was all over. Its better saying goodbye with a happy laugh than with sad tears, dont you agree? go back to the gig index.
