I just need to talk to someone about Mac and Mirc. I enjoyed todays lesson and did not know about History. I use history alot I have mine history set for 20 days but I cear it out alot everytime I go there cause there are so many multiple entries but it is a good way for me to find places cause I fly around a lot I have mine set for 999 days!! great resource LOL Does Pat come to the chat room? jean you must have a HD of 10GB Yes She usually does I have ICQ her but she isnt online yet She said she would be here tonight though no - it is getting close to overfull :) what is your question about Mirc ans is setting uo mirc any differen on a MAC Does anyone know If not I will help Ruth get her mIRC set up Blue uses Mac : ) Blue do get in the chat with browser. I have not downloaded m IRC. Is that advisable? no Ruth I haven't Blue how do you enter - not through the classroom? Ruth I am using Ircle... I am a Macintosh user Kittycat too has MAC Hi Kittycat I have been waiting for you. Do you use m IRC to get into chat, and should I download it on my Mac I enter wiregrass through Ircle Ruth-with a Mac--I yhave to use Ircle--not Mirc that is what ruth needs toi know about is ircle I think please help her do that Ruth I have a web page that tells you how to download and set up Ircle on you Macintosh at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8822/ircle.htm Do I download it or is on my Mac? You must download--it is a Shareware Ruth... the correct address is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8822/ircle.htm Anymore Mac Users in here other than Ruth, Blue and myself? I had a question about the lesson--but guess will just have to wonder No give us the question no ask Kittykat or is it a MAC question? We are here to address lesson questions I cant help with MAC stuff though but I think Blue can help with those It is a Mac question--I know the windows etc all look different-- I cannot find "Quickfile"--and in Communicator--I cannot find where to "Delete bookmark" although I can find it in Nav 3.04 When I'm in my bookmark's I right click then delete the line I don't want/bookmark I just go to bookmarks in communicator and highlight the one you want to delete and press delete same thing? I don't know about theQuickFile I did not find it today, but I did find History Boy do I feel like a noodnik--because I always use the word under file in Nav 3.04--I assumed I had to use the same in Com. But I just went and did the same as Ruth suggested--works like a charm sorry kittycat did that answer your question Did you go try it? I would think the history folder would be the same for all though MAC and PC as far as deleting - No--the history file is way over in another place--no delete there unless go to preferences and wipe them all out In Communicator, in Bookmarks, where is the delete button? Do you have an IBM? Lesson said it under Edit when Bookmarks open It come's up when you right click on the highlighted line? Think that all for now--I am needing to "clean out " my bookmarks--and was alarmed when I could not delete!! Does anyone know, if you use 2 or 3 servers, how you can transfer your bookmarks from one to the other or combine them from time to time? Maybe it can't be done KK-that's how I felt about not being able to delete mine too. yes peaches Zonie can tell use about that cause he uses IE But my IE has that option to import the files I have in Netscape When I upgraded Netscape Gold - 4.04 -4.04 then 4.05 each time my bookmarks & mail followed with me. No problem 4.03 to 4.04 your favorites are in a folder on your hard drive not on server : ) I use several servers, but I am only able to access Communicator on the one from which I downloaded it. Can anyone tell me how to be able to use Communicator no matter which server I choose to use? down load from NetScape instead of server use Communicator as you default server I did download from Netscape z-AM--yes they will automatically be in all of the Netscape-- some of them are in my IE--but I haven't checked it lately--so don't know if they are all in IE or not ?are you saying server, and meaning browser? only favorites saved in NS will be in NS folder and only favorites saved in IE will be in IE folder each browser does have a conversion capability, to import bookmarks one from the other, but not sure how to use it on either :) never tired : ) The only time I use IE is for surfing the net per.se mine are all there kittycat.......IE imports the Netscape bookmarks when you tell it to...... No, I mean server. I will be specific. I was using IBM Global when I downloaded Communicator. I still have Netscape 3.0 available. I did not delete it. Then when I choose to use Prodigy Internet, I can get Netscape 3.0 there as the default, but I can not click on my desktop Communicator and have it connect I do not use IE anywhere Thanks Blossom--I will check it out after I clean out the Nav ones * PeachesBG * you have a server specific communicator, probably has the server logo in upper right cornor, you need to uninstall it and down load from www.netscape.com Peaches it sounds like you should change your default from Netscape 3.0 to Communicator if that is the one you want to use with Prodigy...... I deleted the Netscape Gold, then the other upgrades, just seemed to absorb each on the other! That is where I downloaded it from if you down load communicator or IE from a server rather than parent site, you will probably get a server specific browser just checked--has Netscape logo in right hand corner I bet there is somewhere in Prodigy that you can change your default browser Peaches ok, you have your dial up set for old server then You have to be online to access Netscape.com--right? I did that, then downloaded how do you connect to internet : ) first question last : ) In talking to Prodigy Internet they told me they don't support Netscape, just IE, but I should be able to figure it out and access it. do you click NS icon or use DUNN click on Communicator icon on desktop after getting online wonder when Prodigy stoped supporting NS ? the what happens ? the=then I can't remember but something about server can't find DNS something or other. Wish I could ck. it for you now, but don't want to leave here ok you need to change your default page : ) while on Prodigy Internet? Edit/Preferences/Navigator I have copied the Help pages from Netscape.com on how to make Netscape your default browser just enter in a diff web site Don't understand your last statement like mayby http://www.netscape.com/ * PeachesBG * are you here in mirc or web browser ? mirc I use Netscape Communicat for Professional's as my home page. You can put that in under Preferences ok you don't have to close mirc to open NS open it and Edit/Preferences/Navigator then enter http://www.netscape.com/ as default page I understand that. Not the problem. I am on IBM Global because I can't access Communicator if I am on PI. I hate full service providers, too many rules, filters, etc, will stick with stright internet connection : ) It seems to me as though I should be able to access Communicator no matter which server I choose as my online one at the time yes you should IBM Global is straight internet connection but the DNS error only means you can't access that page have you tried just typing in a URL in the address window ? Last year I was using AOL and Microsoft Explorer had all kind of problems, trying to get to VU, and Netscape. So I droped AOL, used by other server, and defaulted to Netscape Navigator! wait........I have a question which Netscape is your default browser? 3.0, but I just close that out and click on Communicator I use sprynet with dial up networking, stright connect, and I have no problems with IE or NS excetp NS crashes a lot more, and don't have all the features IE does : ) 4.05 Comm. for Professionals is the one I use! I bet cha if you change Communicator to your default browser it will load in Prodigy...... And I'm the other way around, I think a lot of it has to do, with how you set up your preferences! Yes, Blossom I'm with you, on that bet!!! I really like the search and history features in IE, search cause you list is always there, no wearing out your back button, trying to get back to search page : ) use your go button I use history in Netscape to do that Under preferences| navigator, it gives the location as www.ibm.net; so why should it be available at www.prodigy.net as well? yes but you still got to go back :) IE uses a seperate frame for the search list : ) I'm more into forward! and for history list : ) don't know what to tell you for that Peaches......sorry What is the concensus about Netscape vs. IE or does each have its pluses Don't ask Zonie - he is prejudiced! :) lol I use Communicator, that is the main reason I'm in this Class, to learn more about Communicator only because I use both : ) I Like MSIE Outlook express (my default mail) better tha Communicator Message Each has it's pluses Peaches......but I prefer IE.......LOL I have NS3 and 4, and IE4 i prefer NS NS don't support as much really great stuff for HTML writters as IE does either : ( can you use both without causing problems? I use both - The history and search features have me sold on IE........yes jbr I like Netscape because that's where all my bookmarks are I use both, also and I don't hink the one BIG problem I have has anything to do with using both i use both,, but more NS So do I AM I know more about Netscape, so natch, I use it more! : ) My problem is that I can't hear any music - if I'm on line So maybe we need a class on IE? to use NS3 and 4 you need them on diffrent partitions or drives can't use IE3 and 4 on same system Have you checked you volume, and sound card, to see that it is still setup for use? ruth........do you have an Aptiva? AM - are you talking to me re:sound MWave sound card ? I deleted the Gold/.03 no problem's came after doing it! Yes, I have an Aptiva and had a big fight with IBM todya still haven't found that class action thing yet Zonie - I mentioned the problem I have to you the other day and, according to IBM the class action suit has been "settled" you were the one I told about the class action law suit weren't you ? Right - Zonie - that was me IBM's attitude is "tough s%&@" lady hmmmm, can't be sure, but it was in news group just a couple of weeks ago And I am really p#%$&@ might try a search news group??? yes was in several couple of weeks ago My machine is only a year old yea I know IBM attitude but IBM tells me the mwave card was "state of the art" then the CDs I got with system were bad, so took 2 calls to tech support to figure out that was what was wrong, but that started my warrenty period, I still don't think that was right either that is why rather then even fool with them I just got new sound card and modem please explain to me the z before some names. Thanks Well, they're not finished with me YET * PeachesBG * comes from HTML classes, means no question to ask Ruth: you might subscribe to Microsoft Windows 95 Tip of the Day, at tips@tipworld.com So Zonie - tell me about the New sound card and modem that you got I'm finished with them : ), now that I got win98 I gonna use IBM CD's for skeet practice : ) didn't you say you never bothered to install them Sound Blaster AWE64, USRobtics 56k v.90 In to-days tip, they talked about sound problems. Open the Control Panel to access Sounds. Then check out your settings. fax, voice, data to install what ? the new modem and sound card, I mean I installed them the day I got them : ) the new sound card and modem mwave in closet collecting dust : ) want a spare : ) I like them better on seperate cards anyway :) Yes Zonie thats the same sound blaster, I have cheaper to replace if needed :) is a good card In the last year, I have,so far accumulated enough stuff to build a PC for my wife Where we suppose to go over to Browsers at 5pm AK time? thanks for all your help--you've all given me a few ideas. See you all next week #browsers if anyone has more questions since we can't stay here
