<Marthe> I just sent off what I hope to heaven is the last edit on the

big database chapter.

<Marthe> Now I have to polish the other chapter, and hey nonny nonny! :)

<BarB--> Big database chapter

<Marthe> The chapter which features all of the databases...it's huge.

<Marthe> Then there's a chapter devoted to utility programs.

<BarB--> All the programs

<Marthe> And lots of appendixes.

<doris> Does your book have a name?

<Marthe> Genealogy Software Guide

<Marthe> Should be out in the next couple of months.

<Marthe> Let's hear how you all organize those stacks of papers, clippings, and

photocopies.

<Cesario> I'm attempting to organize with binders, and Sky Filer

<Cesario> a nifty filing program

<doris> I also try to write a little story about each person and family and

add to it as I have to

<BarB--> I have most of my stuff in separate surname binders, plus the stacks

<Marthe> What do you do with Sky Filer, Ces?

<Cesario> I input all the info from any given source

<BarB--> Have to orginals of docs and pixs in file cabniet under surnames

<Cesario> organized according to how its filed

<doris> what is a sky filer?

<Cesario> It's an indexing program

<Cesario> and searchable

<Cesario> only $35

<Cesario> so I can look up all sources about any topic, surname or locality with

the search feature

<Cesario> and once I find a source - I can lay my hands on it immediately

<BarB--> My cousin is going to pick up Family Atlas at the KS gen meeting for me

and her.. Thanks Ces

<Cesario> because it is indexed just like i have it filed

<Cesario> Wow - Cool BarB :) can't wait to get that program

<kybelle> Cesario, checked the parson's web site there is a 10 coupon there

<Cesario> do you have the url kybelle?

<kybelle> www.parsonstech.com

<Cesario> Organizing genealogy research is a very challenging topic

<kybelle> http://www.parsonstech.com

<BarB--> Both!! Marthe, are you going to let us know about future classes

<BarB--> Will it be on the intermediate list

<Cesario> BTW - I'll be updating Branches, the Genealogy TreeHouse this week -

hopefully today

<Cesario> don't forget to stop by occasionally and say HI!

<Cesario> http://www.rootsweb.com/~treehous

<Marthe> I'm not sure what I'm doing about future classes now, Barb. I haven't

made up my mind yet.

<BarB--> Sure hope you will be giving more somewhere!! I will really misss them..

<Cesario> Make sure you are subscribed to Internet_Genealogy-L

<Cesario> announcements about classes will be on there :)

<Marthe> I have to put up a reminder to that in the Classroom.

<Cesario> along with some really great urls

<helen> Marthe what do people do with all the possible family? don't want

to enter in the computer

<Cesario> depends on the program you are using helen but you can always do

two databases

<Cesario> one verified and one not verified

<helen> Use FTM

<Marthe> Which is a good idea. :)

<Cesario> so you can track all of them

<Cesario> I have quite a few family files for FTM

<helen> Oh, just use different names to the file?

<Cesario> okay kybelle - what did you click on for the coupon? I don't see

one on the main page...

<kybelle> just a sec

<Marthe> Yes helen, you can name the files differently, and keep one file

for the information you've sourced...

<Marthe> and another file for the info you've gathered but not sourced.

<helen> Thanks, great help

<kybelle> Cesario, it was there last night today they have the scanner

where the coupon should be

<Marthe> This group is always good for help, helen.

<Marthe> You toss out a problem, we all chip in with our $0.02 worth of advice. :)

<Cesario> Bummer - Thank you though kybelle :) I'll just have to keep an eye on it...

<kybelle> Marthe, I do have a file for the ones that I haven't contacted yet

<Marthe> Great, KY. I think it's a good idea...I haven't done that, but

then, I don't get to do research any more since I spend every waking hour

at this computer. :)

<Marthe> Well, I'll announce the chat times for the BCC classes in the

Internet Genealogy list, and you know you are all welcome to drop by and participate.

<Cesario> That could be lots of fun!

<Cesario> Don't forget to tell us the topic of the week...

<Marthe> Well, the summer quarter doesn't start till...

<Marthe> Looks like July 6.

<Marthe> Oh...I want you all to go and visit the page with my new puppy's pictures on it.

<Marthe> http://www.eskimo.com/~mnarends/ma/jazi.html

<doris> what kind of pup, Marthe?

<Marthe> Rhodesian Ridgeback, doris.

<doris> Does anyone keep a page in their genealogy for all the animals they've had?

<Marthe> Of course, Doris! And I have their genealogies as well. :)

<doris> I don't know their genealogies, but I have a long list of pets

<Marthe> They're part of the family!

<MCW> doris I have a file for all the cars my father and I have had That was a

project I did in highschool fo a family tree project.

<kybelle> Marthe, don't forget to let us know about PIG class and the BBS

<MCW> The cars thing is fun cause it brings back lots of memories

<Cesario> Hey Eudora has a Translator plugin - that is too cool

<Cesario> I wonder how good it is...

<Marthe> Huh. What languages does it do?

<Cesario> English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portugese

<Cesario> Translators would be a good software chat topic Marthe

<Marthe> Hmmm. Isn't that the same as Alta Vista?

<Marthe> It would be, it would be!

<Marthe> Write that down in your list of stuff, Ces.

<Cesario> It's something you can add to your eudora software on your own computer

<Marthe> Huh.

<Marthe> I don't like Eudora. :)

<Cesario> Bummer... I just love it. :)

<MCW> sorry to get off the subject again but I just got new laptop and does

anyone know can I just connect it to this puter and use modem from this one

I want to install mirc on it and stuff but it doesnt have a modem card yet

<Cesario> I'm sure there is a way but I'm not that saavy yet...

<Marthe> If you have Windows 95, MCW, you should be able to use the briefcase

function to transfer stuff.

<MCW> yes have win on both will try that

<Marthe> My husband does that with his laptop...there's a little briefcase icon

and it is meant to transfer stuff from the desktop to a laptop.

<MCW> k
