COLLECTING OLD TOY SOLDIERS

MIKE'S OLD TOY SOLDIERS

I collect old toy soldiers made in the U.S.A. They were sold in the dimestores from the middle 1930' untill 1942. After WW2 ended some where made thru the middle 1950's.

There where four major companies making these soldiers. Barclay,Manoil,Gray Iron, and Auburn Rubber. Of the four Barclay was the biggest and the one that was copied the most.

With exception of Gray Iron and Auburn Rubber all the figures were hollow lead castings. This inculed some of the smaller companies before WW2.

The dimestore soldiers are around 31/2" tall. This size is much bigger than the ones made in England and Germany which where 54mm or about 2" in size. This 54mm size is still been made today both in America and England.

If anyone reading this is intereast in more details about the hobby or the soldiers themself please e-mail me and I will try to answer your questions or tell where to go to get the answers

Here are the pictures. The large ones are 3 1/2 and the small ones are 54mm.

I have had some e-mail about the soldiers. This is good. If you have questions about a soldier a group of them please give me as much details as you can. A lot of them look a like. I well do my best to answer your questions.
