The varsity 1997-1998 wrestling team, under the head of a new coach, had another good season despite losing the MIAA tournament for the first time in 23 years. Coach Brian Murphy, a former Pennsylvania state champion, joined the MSJ wrestling program last year as an assistant coach to Paul Triplett and then took over the role of head coach for the 1997-1998 season. He attended Notre Dame on a wrestling scholarship. Coach Murphy and his assistant coach SSG Breen lead the team to third place at the MIAA tournament and a 13-3 dual meet record. This team included six seniors, 3 juniors, 3 sophmores and one freshman.
