Love Lost

Here you come again,
With your eyes a gleam.
I don't think you really know
What you do to me.

I long for your embrace,
Although I may never feel it again.
I will keep searching for this:
A dream I can not attain.

Every time I get close
You push me away.
When I want to give up
You ask me to stay.

Why must you torture me
In such a time of need?
All I ask for is affection,
But my insecurity is all you feed.

I feel like I should run,
But something keeps me here.
Is happiness so far out of reach
That I only return out of fear?

In case you are wondering, this is not about anyone in particular. It is more of an allegory that could be about one person or love in general. I wrote it at a time when I was frustrated with trying to find a date (to put it simply).

where now?
