God hath not promised
skies always blue,
flower strewn pathways
all our lives thru.
God hath not promised
sun without rain,
joy without sorrow,
peace without pain.
But God hath promised
strength for the day,
rest for the labor,
light for the way.
Grace for the trials, help from above,
unfailing sympathy undying love.

The Man In The Glass
When you get what you want
In your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day.
Just go to the mirror,
And take a look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your mother,
Your father or wife,
Whose judgement upon you must pass.
The man whose verdict means most in your life,
Is the man staring back from the glass.
Some people may think you're
A straight shooting chum,
And call you a wonderful guy;
But the man in the mirror
Thinks you're only a bum,
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
He's the fellow to please,
Never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear to the end.
And you've passed the most
Difficult, dangerous test,
If the man in the glass
Is your friend.
You may fool the whole world
Down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But, your final reward
Will be heartache and tears,
If you've cheated that man in the glass!
I THREW IT OUT
Last Week I threw out worrying,
it was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me;
I couldn't do things my way.
I threw out those inhibitions;
they were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
got rid of my old dreams and doubts.
I threw out a book on my past
didn't have time to read it anyway.
Replaced it with New Goals,
started reading it today.
I threw out childhood toys
remember how I treasured them so?
Got me a new philosophy too,
threw out the one from long ago.
Bought in some new books too,
called I can, I will, and I must.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.
I ran across an old friend
haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is God,
Yes, I really like His style.
He helped me to do some cleaning
and added some thing's Himself.
Like prayer, hope and faith,
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.
I picked up this special thing
and placed it at the front door.
I found it - its called peace.
Nothing gets me down anymore.
Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
there just isn't any place.
Its good to do a little house cleaning,
get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter;
maybe you should try it yourself.

Touching Shoulders
There's a comforting thought at the close of the day,
When I'm weary and lonely and sad;
That sort of grips hold of my poor old heart
And bids it be merry and glad.
It gets in my being and it drives out the blues;
And finally thrills through and through.
It's just a sweet memory that chants the refrain;
"I'm glad I touched shoulders with you!"
Did you know you were brave?
Did you know you were strong?
Did you know there was one leaning hard?
Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed
And was cheered by your simplest word?
Did you know that I longed for that smile on your face,
For the sound of your voice ringing true?
Did you know I grew stronger and better because
I had merely touched shoulders with you?
I'm glad that I live, that I battle and strive
For the place that I know I must fill;
I'm thankful for sorrows; I'll meet with a grin
What fortune may send, good or ill.
I may not have wealth, I may not be great,
But I know I shall always be true;
For I have in my life that courage you gave
When once I rubbed shoulders with you

Dear God
Dear God
I'm writing this to ask you why?
Why can't I be happy no matter how hard I try?
To ask You to guide me and help me to see.
Please won't you show me what is here for me.
Won't You open my eyes, show me the light
So I may go forward and make things right.
I don't claim to be perfect, only sincere,
I just need to know, what I'm doing here.
I feel there's a reason for being alive
So I keep looking and I continue to strive.
I need to find these answers that
I'm sure I'll find in me,
Though I'm looking for help to open my eyes and see.
I love you God and look for guidance from you
so I will see your plan and know what to do.
