Marion, Kentucky, USA

This is a page about our little town in Western Kentucky.

Marion is a small, friendly town about 50 miles east of Paducah on US Highway 60.  We are about 15 miles south of the Ohio River.  I will now show some of our houses and stores.  At the bottom of the page, look for links to the various businesses in, or near Marion.

This is an old postcard of downtown Marion with ore wagons coming into town from the mines.  The scene is looking north on Main street near the intersection on Main and Carlisle.  The building on the left is where the present day Farmers Bank is.  The old Court House is in the center of the photograph.  The ore wagons were loaded with zinc ore.

The building on the right was the old Marion public High School.  It has been rumored to become the satellite of Murray State University. (This has not happened as yet)

This is the old Masonic Temple.  The building  now  houses the "Hunt's Department Store" and "Thom's  Sweet Shoppe and Paula's China Shoppe"  This building is on the Northeast side of the Square in downtown Marion. It also houses a new sign shop.

The "Sweet Shoppe" is in the old "City Drug Store"  Thom has some of the finest food in Marion. What was Hunt's Department Store is now another one of Thom's Cafes. He serves full meals, as well as soups, sandwichs and salads. He also serves malts, milk shakes, sodas, etc. He took cooking classes in New Orleans where he learned "Cajun" cooking.

This a close up of "Thom's Sweet Shop"  (as mentioned above.)  Thom cooks his own food and does it very well.  I also taught him to make a "chocolate peanut butter malt"

He makes one of the finest in the world.  (Thom, I want some free malts for this unsolicited advertisement)

This is on the east side of the square and shows the "Coffee Shop" , Barber Shop, Beauty shop and real estate office
