BASIC COFFEE CAKE


Stir sugar into mix. Beat egg and add to water. Add egg-water to mix; stir until ingredients are well mixed - DO NOT BEAT. Spread half of batter evenly in greased 8x8x2-inch pan. Sprinkle half of CINNAMON-SUGAR TOPPING evenly over batter. Spread remaining batter in pan. Cover with remaining topping. Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes. (*1-1/2 cups finely chopped, peeled apple may be added, if desired.)

Mix together dry ingredients. Cut together with margarine in food-processor or with pastry cutter:
