Fruit Cocktail Cake

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
16 ounces fruit cocktail in juice
2 eggs
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

ICING:
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup pecans -- chopped
1 cup coconut flakes

Mix dry ingredients together. Add eggs, oil and fruit cocktail (juice too) and mix until well blended. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake in a 325 F. oven for 45 minutes. remove; cool and add the following icing.

In a saucepan, mix milk, butter, sugar, and vanilla. Cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in pecans and coconut. Spread over cooled cake.
