Meet Blue Beard... My 13 year old Blue and Gold Macaw...
Blue and Paul.... Blue eating cream cheese off a spoon...
Blue playing with her toys! (Cute, huh? *smile*)
Why is she named blue beard if she's a girl?? Who knows, all
we can figure is that she wasn't sexed when her first owner
got her, and that's the name she was given... She definitally
knows her name is Blue, so we could never even consider
changing it.... (She hasn't quite yet figured out that she's
a Parrot, and not a people... She totally rules the house!! LOL...)
Here's a some wavs of Blue talking... They aren't the best quality, she
wanted to eat the mic rather than talk, LOL, so when I get better ones I'll
change them...:o) She has quite the vocabulary, and this is just a few of the
many things she says... (We have to watch EVERYTHING we say around her because
she picks things up so quickly... Especially the BAD 4 letter words! *laugh*)
She says things when SHE wants to... (Stubborn!! :o) And we were
LUCKY to get her to cooperate even a little when we made these!! *LOL*
(Please be patient, some of them are kinda big and might take a couple
minutes to load! :o)
Doc's the newest addition to our family... He's a 4 year old
hybrid Macaw... (A cross between a Blue & Gold Macaw and a Green Wing...)
He's lived here with us for a couple of months and he's not
much of a talker yet... Doc was raised in an Aviary and hasn't had
a whole lot of human contact... The one word he knew when he first moved
in was "Margret"... We're not sure if it was another bird or a previous
care giver, but he seems to holler out that name when he's mad about
something... (Or when I'm vaccuming the floor!! LOL...) He's learned a
few more words since he's been here (We think Blue and her non-stop
chatter-box mouth has helped with that... *laugh*) He now on occasion
says "Up up", "Momma", "That's Good", "No", "Hello" and he laughs...
I'll be adding more pictures of Doc as soon as I get some scanned...
How did we get into Parrots?? Well, to me it's kind of an interesting story....
We first me Blue last summer when we seen a Rummage sale sign and
decided to check it out... While looking around Paul heard someone
saying "Hello" to him from outside the garage in the back yard... When
he walked out there he seen about 6 different parrots setting on different
perches just chatting away, so he went over and started talking to them...
That's when we met Michael and Patty Malcheski, the owners of all these birds...
These two people have got to be some of nicest and most caring people we know!!
They rescue birds that are in bad situations or badly abused... They showed us
pictures of Blue and another bird that was with her, Obie, when they first
rescued them... Brought tears to my eyes... These birds were 90% featherless and so
badly malnutritioned... Patty and Michael said that they didn't expect Obie to
make it when the first got him, he was so close to death... (But he DID!! And they've
found him a wonderful new family that simply adores him!! *smile*) And Blue will never
again know what it's like to fully spread her wings because someone purposly broke
both of them and she has bad arthritis in her joints... How could ANYONE do this to
an animal?? It's sad... The world needs more "Michael and Patty's" that take
animals like this out of bad situations and spend money out of their pockets for food,
vet bills, etc.. and work at finding these birds good homes... (And trust me, Patty's
REALLY PICKY about where she lets one of these birds go!! If she doesn't feel comfortable
with the perspective new owner, she won't let them take the bird!! *laugh*)
Anyways, back to when we met Blue... When Paul first seen her he fell in love,
and after hearing her story, it only made us love her more... We became immediate
friends with Patty and Michael and spent time visiting with them and Blue and thier
other birds... The more time spent there, and the more Blue got to know us, the more
we decided we wanted Blue to come live with us, and she moved in last November...
We stopped over to visit Patty and Michael again a few months ago and they'd gotten
a new bird that they were trying to find a home for, Doc... Paul and Doc seemed
to bond almost instantly and shortly after he moved in with us too.. *smile*
Blue is DEFINITALLY one of the family now and I couldn't see my life with out
her... Or Doc....
