Laua`e, Maile-Scented Fern
Microsorium scolopendria
This fragrant leaf fern makes it way into many Hawaiian ceremonies, hulas, and celebrations. Laua`e is one of the more common indigenous ferns found wild and cultivated in Hawaii. Eye washes and skin washes were prepared from the leaves for medicine in Kahuna La`au Lapa`au.
