Pastor David Smith and his wife, Cathy, came to us in April of 1998. They served previously in the Prescott Valley and Cottonwood areas of Arizona. David is originally from Glenrose, Texas. Cathy was raised in Phoenix. They have been blessed with a daughter, Fayla.

Pastor David is a disciple-making pastor. His heartbeat is for multiplying his life and ministry in the lives of others. He brings the Bible to life in a practical and useful way, challenging the family of Foothills to apply the timeless principles of God's Word in everyday life.

The focus of his ministry has been always on the ongoing mission of God through the church. At Foothills, David keeps our focus on making the good news of Jesus relevant to others by being real and genuine in our attitudes and actions, and passionate in our love for God.

Phil McConnell serves as Worship Pastor. He and his wife, Ann, came to Foothills in April of 1995. They have a daughter, Mariah. They previously served in Oklahoma. Ann is a Family Therapist, who presently serves on an advisory council with the Arizona Baptist Children's Services. Her life's passion is guiding their daughter to find God's purpose for her life.

The primary ministry goals for Phil and Ann have been focused in developing a total family ministry. Phil's ministry is expressed in leading the Foothills family to worship. Leading worship, for Phil, is a method of dicipleship. As people grow in Christ, their expressions of worship become less routine and more dynamic, as God does His work through them. While at Foothills, the McConnells have worked to bring authenticity to every expression of worship, no matter the age, spiritual heritage, life experience, or any other factor. Whether through music, drama, art, or other forms, God uses every human expression to magnify Himself.

The McConnell's family mission statement shows how they view God's purpose for their lives:

Because we love God, we will show our love with grace and truth, to those in our family, neighborhood, church, and the world.

This statement guides the McConnells in their ministries inside and outside the church family.
