Berlin Airlift

Rhein/Main Air Force Base,
Frankfurt, Germany, 12 may 1949. The lifting of the Berlin Blockade by the Russians was reason for
enthusiastic rejoicing by Airlift
personnel at bases in the
Western Zone of Germany. the
Airmen of Navy Squadron
VR-6 are shown greeting a
crew as it returned from
delivering ten tons to Tempelhof when the end of the
blockade became an actuality.
Although the blockade
has ended, the lift is expected to
continue for some time.
The crew pictured leaving the plane are: (left to right) ADC Robert G. Blackner, Salt Lake City, Utah; Lt. (jg) Meyer A. Minchen, Houston, Texas; and on he ladder is Ensign Howard A. Shaw,
Yonkers, New York.
