Airmen at Rhein Main Air Force Base, Germany, spray Berlin airlift planes with a de-icing chemical sprayed under high pressure. The
spraying equipment, available at all terminals where U.S. Air Force planes are based, removes ice coating from Berlin-bound aircraft and at the same time covers flight surface with the anti-icing liquid which is effective for nine hours. Used effectively during the war, a spray unit can de-ice a Skymaster C-54 within four minutes.
