Close friend, Rex, first spotted Fermin Lighthouse as we were visiting the Korean Freedom Bell in San Pedro, California. He was looking down from the hill on which the bell stood and called me over and we calculated how to get there from where we stood.
Can you see the light?
One short block from the bell, all doubt was removed.
You approach the light from the north, as you cross a large park. This is the back side of the light.
Coming around the light, you see that the structure is pretty typical of the time for a two-story house.
The ocean side of the light is most impressive with the December sky extra blue near the ocean.
You might think the house was just built and opened. It appears to look the same as it did in 1874.
If you look to the east, from the wall between the Pt. Fermin light and the ocean bluff, you can see the breakwater light.
Even with a 200 mm lens, you can just spot it past the far cliff.
