TechKNOWLEDGEy Assistance for Beginning Teachers

Goal:

• To benefit both Beginning Teachers as well as Teachers Beginning to use the Internet in the Classroom.
• To provide cross-curricular Internet instruction, in the areas of Information and Collaboration, to teachers who want to use the "Internet in the Classroom." This will include e-mail, first between teachers, then between teachers and their students. Free web-based e-mail for teachers will be used for collaboration with other teachers and with me as their mentor, as well as for use with their students.
• To Enhance the AUHSD Teachers' Presence on the World Wide Web (WWW) by helping them to place their course syllabi, course handouts, course calendars, study sheets, student grades (accessible by ID number) and other classroom documents on the WWW where students as well as colleagues and parents may read and print them. Theoretically, anything that would have been xeroxed in the past can now be put on a Web Site for more efficient use of teacher time.

Objective:

• Teachers will gain Internet skills in searching for information that relates to their subject areas.
• Teachers will gain skill in collaboration with colleagues and students through e-mail.
• Teachers will gain skill in preparing Web Pages of information for students, parents, and colleagues.

Activity:

• The mentor will attend the Classroom Connect Conference in the fall in Anaheim, and Computer Using Educators Conference in the spring in Palm Springs.
• The mentor will be a working member of the Cypress High School Technology Committee whose first task is to implement the Digital High School funding for 1998.
• The mentor will provide one-on-one teacher help for Cypress High School teachers in the area of Internet across the Curriculum.
• The mentor will provide one-on-one teacher help for Cypress High School teachers using Macintoshes.

Cost Breakdown:

Of the budget for mentoring, 50% will be for conferences, 50% will be for technology expenses, both hardware and software.

Timeline:

Spring, 1998, attend CUE Conference

February - June help CHS Technology Committee finalize Digital High School funding

Fall, 1998, attend Classroom Connect Conference

Summer - Fall, 1998, install and connect computers from the D.H.S. funding into the Business and Applied Technology Department at Cypress High School

Summer, 1998, rebuild desks for Ethernet network within the Business and Applied Technology Department at Cypress High School

Evaluation:

Currently no teacher at CHS has information on the Internet for students and parents. At evaluation time for this project, a survey will be taken to show the number of teachers who have information for students on the internet.
