Featuring the 11-member South Church Handbell Ringers from St. Johnsbury, Vermont, U.S.A., as part of their summer concert tour through Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Under the direction of Phil Brown, the choir performs an energetic concert of original compositions and transcriptions for handbells from the sacred, secular and classical repertoire. Jordan was the winner of the prestigious BMI/John Lennon songwriting scholarship competition, and was awarded the $10,000 US first prize. Jordan is also the winner of the Startrack '99 songwriter competition sponsored by Maritime Broadcasting System, and the winner of the Jack Maher award for outstanding contributions to songwriting, arranging, production and performance at Berklee. 8 pm.           Carmen - The Opera @ The Imperial Theatre
Presented by OPERA New Brunswick. Carmen is one of the most recognized and popular operas of all time. This fully-staged production will include period costumes, a full orchestra and bilingual translations overhead. Kristin Chavez (Carmen) is a beautiful mezzo soprano, and winner of the George London Foundation Award. Ross Neil (Don Jose) is a Canadian tenor. Founded in 1991 to explore and perform vocal and instrumental music of the Middle Ages, this ensemble presents concerts of music focussing on particular countries, periods or themes, enriched by readings. They perform music in a broad spectrum of styles: serene plainchant and ethereal vocal music convey the meditative devotion of the Middle Ages; polyphonic and accompanied courtly songs present the many voices of medieval poetry - courtly love-lyric, humour, satire, and narrative; instrumental settings and dances offer yet another glimpse of the medieval world. This is not your average piano trio. But that's the point. The trio strives for diversity, versitility, and more than a little unpredictability. As the Quartet-in-Residence at the Université de Moncton, the Quatuor Arthur-LeBlanc is now beginning a second decade of making beautiful music. In addition to their frequent broadcasts on CBC radio and Radio-Canada, the quartet is presently finishing their much-anticipated next recording. This performance will feature the quartet during Act 1.
