PROFILE

Rodger Smith moved up from Country Victoria to Queensland when he was 18 years old, since then he has played for Queensland U/20's, the Brisbane Bullets and the Gold Coast Cougars/Rollers. He is an insipational player with the ability to energise a team with his athleticism and thunderous dunks. However Rodger Smith's greatest talents are at the other end of the court. He is one of the best defensive players in the league and night after night takes on the oppositions best offensive player. He has shut down everybody from Andrew Gaze to Derek Rucker to Ricky Grace while still managing to improve on his offensive skills each year. Last season was his best as a proffesional. He increased his scoring out put to over 10ppg and made over 30 three pointers in 30 games. He played in Game two of the Bullets play off series against the Wildcats with a suspected broken thumb. In 1989 at the age of twenty Rodger Smith made his NBL debut for the Bulets but left the following season. He was a starter the next three seasons for the Gold Coast Cougars (later named Rollers). He then returned in 1993 and he continued his good form to become an integral part of the Bullets team, as he has been for the last 5 seasons. He was rewarded this season by being resigned by the axe weilding comeback coach Brian Kerle.
