PROFILE

Ray Borner is one of the most experienced players in the NBL. Ray has played 17 seasons in the NBL and has plaed in 4 Olympic Games, 4 World Championships, has won 1 NBL title and ! M.V.P award. He is now getting ready for his 18th season in the NBL (his fourth with the Cannons). What keeps him motivated and what makes him keep coming back year after year, the obvious answer in winning. And the Cannons have a very good chance to be there late in the play offs next season. With free agent signing Mike Mckay and the nucleas the Cannons have kept intact, (Rose, Dwight ,Borner, Pilon), and the Cannons look very strong. Borner's minutes may decrease with the signing of import Foward Melvin Thomas. But Ray will still get his time off the bench backing up young Centre Simon Dwight. Borner first starting taking basketball seriously when he was 17, he was still a raw talent but his height 208cm was something very rare back then and he was appraoched by Coburg officail Ken Holland and was offered a spot on the team, he took it. He then won a scholarship to American College L.S.U, (Louisianna State University) where he established himself as a solid Centre, not exciting but he was a good passer, good shooter, good defender, and very tough. He played one season in America and then returned home. Since then he has won many Individual National Basketball League Awards, and one Championship.
