PROFILE

The Sun of former Bullet legend Cal 'Black Pearl' Bruton, C.J was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the second round of the 1997 NBA draft in June. His rights were traded to the Portland Trailblazers who gave C.J permission to talk to and eventually sign with an overseas club. Bruton is looking to get back into the NBA within the next three years, but for now is keen to follow in his fathers footsteps and develop his game in the presure cooker atmosphere of the NBL. Bruton played one season with the Perth Wildcats in 1994 before leaving to join Indianna Hills junior College. (Bruton was unable to play in the NCAA due to his professional experience with the Wildcats). Bruton produced two out standing seasons which caught the eye of NBA scouts. In his first season he led the team to the National Junior College Tournament and in his second produced a National Championship. Bruton was highly reguarded and respected by NBA scouts and officials as this Pre Draft extract demonstrates: "He is a good athlete who is a true point guard, he looks to get his team mates involved and makes the extra pass. Bruton has excelent quickness and is a complete player who is a good outside shooter and is very mature. He should be a solid point guard in the NBA."
