PROFILE

Mike Mckay has played in 14 NBL seasons, (12 with Adelaide) and is now moving on to his third team. At the age of 32 Mckay probably has two or three good yhears left in him and he will give thos e years to the Cannons. He is happy to be with the Cannons but he wa dissapointed when Bullets coach Brian Kerle released him over the phone. Mckay had a great season in 1996 averaging close to 20ppg and winning the inagrual Sixth Man of the Year award. However a bad knee injury in week 4 of the 1997 NBL season put Mckay out for the entire season. This seriously hurt the Bullets play off chances and as predicted the Bullets were a first round casualty. Then came the Bullets coaching saga. Brian Kerle wanted the job, Dave Ingham had no reason to be fired. Mckay stood up for his coach and when Ingham was fired, Mckay was going to be next. He was told over the phone that he had been released from his one year contract, a little strange considering the club only had one player under contract, (Mckay). But when the Cannons failed to sign young Magic Guard Frank Drimic, Mckay was their next choice. .
