PROFILE
Brad Rosen has established himself as a reliable and consistent point-guard and a fan favourite at the Kingdome in 1997. Averaging 4.5 points per game this season, Rosen emerged late in the year as the Kings best option at the point-guard position following the injury sustained by Aaron Trahair. Alan Black preferred to start Rosen at the end of the season, showing his good form. Brad’s best ever game in the National Basketball League came on Sunday, 7th September against North Melbourne, when he totalled a career-high 22 points as well as a season-high five assists in a 117-96 Kings loss. Other notable performances in 1997 included a 10 point, 4 rebound, 2 steal performance against Newcastle on July 18th, as well as recording 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in a return game against the Falcons on 15th September. Brad’s field-goal percentage lifted to over 50% for the first time in 1997, which is rare for a guard. His lightening speed enables him to blow by defenders on his way to the basket. His speed has also helped Rosen to become a solid defensive player. Rosen’s assist to turnover ratio is second on the Kings to Trahair. Rosen is very popular with the Kings fans, mainly because of his speed and determination. Often, Rosen enters the game late in the fourth quarter when the match has already been won or lost, but he always gives 100% regardless of the score. He has become a well-known figure in Sydney, due to the Tooheys television advertisement which he appears in. Interestingly, Rosen’s statistics stack up very well with the other players on the Kings roster in terms of minutes per game. If Rosen played the full forty-eight minutes, as did all of the other players, he would have ranked fourth on the team in scoring behind Isaac Burton, Cameron Dickinson and Melvin Thomas with 18.9 ppg. He would also rank first on the team in assists. These numbers show that Rosen’s efficiency is first rate, and if he plays more than the 12 minutes a game he received this year in 1998, Brad Rosen may well emerge as a star in the NBL.
