PROFILE
In his six NBL seasons Melvin Thomas has gained the reputation as one of the most talented and classy imports in the league. In his four seasons with the Illawarra hawks Melvin Thomas averaged 25.5ppg and 11.0rpg, considering he is barely 200cm those rebounding numbers are excelent. His numbers dropped a little when he came to the Sydney Kings, but he still provided 10rpg and just over 20ppg. Melvin Thomas followed Sydney coach Alan Black from Illawarra to Sydney and he will leave Blacks coaching for the first time when he plays for the Canberra Cannons in the 1998 season. The cannons for the past two years have gone small relying on their Australian Big Men, but now they have decided to go a little bigger and play Melvin Thomas at the 4 spot. And with the off season signing of former Brisbane Guard Mike Mckay the Cannons look like being strong all over the court.
