PROFILE
The 210cm Zauner was hot property after his impressive performances late 1996 early 1997 and the Illawarra Hawks were keen to retain his services. Howver Zauner was keen to play the field and test his market value. But Hawks coach Brendan Joyce took offence at Zauner's reluctance to sign and so in an unproffessional move Joyce benched the Hawks captain and most consistant player for a stretch after the All Star break. It was a good season overall for Zauner making the All Star team and having some good individual performances. After resigning with the Hawks Zauner was reinstated to the starting five and he will be the captain of the Illawarra Hawks again in 1998. He also played for the Australian Boomers in the five game series against the Croatian National Team and in the Boomers end of year tour of the United States.
