Posted: Fri Dec 4, 1998 at 9:54 PM ET

The Victoria Titans rolled to another easy victory tonight with a 101-73 thrashing of the struggling West Sydney Razorbacks in Melbourne. The Titans got the job done thanks to a very balanced attack and a strong game from their inside targets. Tony Ronaldson, Brett Wheeler and Ben Pepper totally outclassed the Razorbacks big men, the Razors cause not helped when Simon Dwight went down with an ankle injury early in the game. They managed to keep it close in the first quarter however thanks to 14 points from guard John Rillie. Rillie hit on four treys in the first quarter to keep the Back within a point, 25-26. But Rillie could not continue his hot shooting in the second quarter and the Titans took advantage. They turned up the defensive pressure and scored freely. In total the outscored the Razorbacks 33-11 in the second quarter and took a commanding 59-36 lead into halftime. John Rillie had 19 at the half to lead all scorers while for Victoria Tony Ronaldson had 14 and Jason Smith 11.

The Razorbacks looked to turn things around in the third quarter and they played good enough defence to get it done, holding the Titans to 16 points. But they only put up 20 points of their own and were facing an uphill battle at three quarter time trailing 75 to 56. With such a big defecit to face, the Titans had two options, turn up the pressure and try to cut into the gap, or give in. They chose the latter. The Titans bench ran riot on the Razorbacks and turned the fourth quarter into an extened period of garbage time. David Smith and the youngster Glen Siegle making some crisp passes to the Titans big men. Ben Pepper was the main beneficiary or the Titans passing game, scoring 9 fourth quarter points. He finished with 18, Tony Ronaldson had 22 and Frank Drmic 15. For the visitors John Rillie scored 22, Derek Rucker 14 and Ernest Nzigamasabo 11.
