NESHS '58 Worldwide Alumni Community |
Excerpted from Vicki Pascual's 1/7/03 Email: Jessie de Leon is in Los Angeles. Efren talked to him last night. He is staying with his sister Baby. Jessie said that they will be at Cecilia Yamsuan's place for a get together today.
Per advise of Rudy Mariano: Herminigildo "Tameng" Camaya, husband of Norma de Guzman, made a short visit to the Marianos in Chesapeake, Virginia last December 29, 2002. Tameng is in town visiting his son in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tameng will be in North America for a number of weeks. Tameng was a former classmate of the NESHS '58 alumni. His wife Norma is a NESHS '58 alumna.
Efren Pascual surprised everybody last October 6, 2002 in Richmond, Virginia (during Myra Dionisio’s wedding): nobody, except the Pascuals, had an inkling that he is in the States. It was a most pleasant surprise for the Dionisio’s (specially to Mernilo since he and Efren were part of a well known student circle in high school).
Efren arrived in the U.S. last September 26, 2002 and will be staying with his family for the holidays. Efren is a NESHS '58 alumni who is presently based in Metro Manila.
Excerpted from Efren Pascual's 8/19/02 Email:
The NESHS 58 Metro Manila Group had a get together last Saturday, August 17 at the residence of Romy and Letty Padiernos. We started at about 2:30PM and lasted until 7PM.
In attendance were Estelita Dino, Soledad Ligon, Matilde Garcia, Jessie de Leon, Oscar and Myrna Vallarta, myself and hosts Romy and Letty Padiernos. Unable to attend were Zeny Linsangan and Eli delos Santos. In the case of Eli, he got caught by heavy rains in his farm in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. Through his cellular phone, however, Eli contributed ... in some topics that we discussed in the meeting.
I distributed copies of the article of Vicki ("13 in 2002") to give them an idea as to how the Virginia reunion went and also for them to know the alumni who attended as well as the other guests who joined the reunion. Romy was of course there telling stories about the happenings. Then we viewed the VHS tape that was sent by Victoria Malgapo Mogan. Romy and I alternated in identifying, in the TV monitor, those that appear in the picture.
We also had our initial discussion about the 2003 Philippine Reunion. Romy and I discussed the "school name restoration" move.
Excerpted from Efren Pascual's 7/30/02 (8:28AM EDT) Email:
"Yesterday (Monday), Estelita Dino Gotera, called to say that ... the wife of Rufino Herrera , Ofelia Pablo (also our classmate in the lower years in high school), passed away. Actually, we were all in the impression that Peng Herrera is in the U.S. Estelita advised Jessie de Leon, a close friend and kumpadre of Peng Herrera.
Early evening today, July 30, Jessie called to say that he was able to get reliable information ... that Ofelia Pablo indeed passed away and was interred this afternoon (Tuesday) in Gapan. Cause of death was not known to Jessie.
In an EMail dated May 31, 2002, Efren Pascual, NESHS '58 alumnus, informed that he is "back to the heat of Philippine weather. I had a pleasant trip. Northwest has kept its name as the most "on-time" airline".
Efren arrived in the U.S. last April to visit his sister in San Diego and his family in New Jersey. Efren will be coming back for the July 2002 reunion in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Efren Pascual, NESHS '58 alumnus, arrived in Los Angeles end of April. He and wife Vicki visited the family of Efren's elder sister in San Diego. Early May, Efren and Vicki were back in New Jersey, home city of Vicki and the Pascuals' children. May 4th was a birthday affair for the Pascual's first apo, Jonah (first offspring of son Richie and wife Gel). May 11th, Efren and Vicki were special guests in the wedding of Chit and Fort dela Pena's daughter Michele in Philadelphia.
Efren will be flying back to Manila last week of May.
Estelita Dino Gotera, NESHS '58 alumna, advised (thru Vicki Pascual) that Romy Padiernos, also a NESHS '58 alumnus, will be marking his 60th birthday anniversary during the last week of March 2002. The Metro Manila alumni group were planning to present Romy with an album of greetings and photos from colleagues and friends..
Efren Pascual, NESHS '58 alumnus, celebrated his 60th birthday anniversary last March 4, 2002 with a morning mass attendance and dinner-for-two (with his daughter Bong) at the Gerry’s Grill restaurant in Libis, Metro Manila. The "dinner-for-two" was actually a cover story (by daughter Bong) for a surprise family "dinner-for-more-than-two". Bong invited Efren's sister Chabeng P. Vasquez (from Gapan) and Chabeng's children.
Efren also received a surprise gift from New Jersey (from wife Vicki and the rest of the family): A special album made up of birthday greetings and messages from Efren's relatives, friends and classmates. The album, per Efren "... made my rather very simple birthday celebration into a very memorable one".
Excerpted from Efren Pascual’s 12/30/01 Email to M. Dionisio. Ace arrived via Northwest and landed at the Manila International Airport at close to midnight of Thursday Dec. 19. He got to the residence of his brother (Pen) in BF Homes, Quezon City (where the body laid in state) past midnight. Earlier that evening, Jessie de Leon and Sol Ligon (they came separately) attended the wake, but both left before midnight and were unable to see Ace.
On the 20th, Thursday, the remains was transferred to Gapan, with the interment scheduled to be on Saturday Dec. 22.
Being very close to Christmas, everybody was busy with Christmas-related activities, like office- or church-related Christmas parties, etc. The NESHS Metro Manila group decided to go to Gapan in the evening of Friday Dec. 21. We agreed to meet at a McDonalds Restaurant near Balintawak at 5:30 PM (after office hours) .
The traffic in Metro Manila (being close to Christmas) was super heavy. I got to the place at 6:15. Romy arrived at McDonalds at 7:20 PM. Even the road leading to Gapan was somehow clogged in some areas. We got to the wake (in the ancestral home of the family of Ace) at close to 11 PM.
The list of alumni that went with us to Gapan were: Romy and Letty Padiernos, Eli delos Santos, Estelita Dino, Matilde Garcia, Remy de San Jose, Luming Mariano and myself. We were in two cars. In Gapan, we passed by Victoria Malgapo (she is in the Philippines because she accompanied her mother, who is getting sickly and wants to come home). That makes a total of 9 persons. From the Gapan group, alumni in the wake that night were: Jacinto Yamsuan, Esterling Fernando, Olga Tiongco and Virginia Liwag. (total of 4).
Also in the wake, being a neighbor of the Lotuacos is Rustico Alfaro. (Rustico is a regular resident of San Diego, California).
We left the wake at past 1:30 AM (Saturday). We entered the boundary of Metro Manila at 3:00 AM. In my case, I got home at 4:30 AM (Saturday) because I drove Estelita Dino and Remy de San Jose to their respective residences. Ace will be in Manila on December 27, staying at New World Hotel and will leave Manila for the U.S. early morning of December 30, 2001. Romy, Eli and I will see Ace at 5:30 PM of Thursday, Dec. 27, at his hotel. We plan to take him out for dinner.
Pare, yun ang nangyari at, (and excluding events) still to happen, in regards to the Philippine trip of Ace. Yun lang, Pare and again, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR to you, Mareng Annie and the entire family.
