BILLBOARD 11/10/84 It's a girl for rocker Benatar LE MUSEUM DE BENATAR Article: Songwriter Connection, November, 1984 |
Originally reviewed for week ending 11/10/84
Benatar has spawned enough hits and imitators to earn serious
consideration as rock's reigning first lady. And, since nothing
succeeds like success, one might expect "Tropico" to be a
rehash of her past performances. Happily, that's not the case.
The new album finds the singer and her band attempting to
incorporate more styles, tones and colors into their music. A
more sophisticated approach to the studio is also applied, and
Benatar's voice seems more varied, more pliant, more capable.
Best tracks include "We Belong," "Love In The Ice Age,"
"Painted Desert" and "Outlaw Blues."
On February 16, 1985, their first child, daughter Haley, is born.
It's a girl for rocker Benatar
Rocker Pat Benatar's latest creation is not a song--but a bouncing baby girl.
Miss Benatar, 33, gave birth to her first child, Haley, in Tarzana, Cal. The father is Pat's husband and guitarist, Neil Giraldo. The singer said that becoming a mother is "without question the biggest event in my life" and she's looking forward to having more kids.
Her latest album, "Tropico," is her sixth million-seller in a row. Other hits include the blockbusters "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Heartbreaker."
