President's Message :
The June meeting was very successful, I would like to thank theBoard members of  the Empire State Lodge for making the long trip from the Island to the North 40.  We had State President, Bob Lucente, Past State President Bill Lombard, Charlie Caputo and Frank Ferrera make the long trip.

I would also like to thank Bob Lucente and the Board for the generous donation that they made towards our Law Enforcement Wall, as well as remembering Chris Riso.  The Board also filled us in on our benefits as members.  We hope that they will make the trip up here again for a friendly visit.

Our guest speaker for the night was Mark Cooper, DJ and host of the popular drive time show mornings on WPDH 101.5fm.  Mark had us in stitches for almost a half hour, without missing a beat.  Mark and his  cohort, John Tobin have been very good friends to this Lodge, they have been plugging our events such as the Venison Dinner, the Conklin's Golf Outing and our Guns and Hoses Tournament on their radio show.  Cooper and Tobin have always been pro cop and have always given time to listen to cops.  We even had a few of our members on the air  with Mark the following day.  Thanks guys for your support.

Inside you will see a few new changes.  I have always said that this is your newsletter, and is catered to law enforcement people living or working in Orange County. Starting with this issue you will see two new columns.  The first will be coming from Sen. Bill Larkin's office about pending Legislation in Albany affecting us and our families.  The second will be a column about new products available to us, this column will be geared to new equipment and the likes.  We hope to make this more informative for our members.

Lastly, keeps these dates open, July 12, the Conklins will be hosting the 2nd Annual PO Jason Conklin  Memorial Golf Outing at Stoney Ford.  There are a few spots left, so if you want to play, call soon  914-351-7475.  The 1st Annual Gujns and Hoses Softball Tournament will be held at West Point in August, for more information call our hotline or log in on Monroe PD web page www.monroepd.org.  The August meeting will be our first BBQ meeting, we have a few surprises up our sleeves to make this a success, so plan on coming early and staying late.

Once again, remember, wear your vest and stay safe.
Tom

Congratulations

Congratulations to Frank Cush on being named to the Board.  Frank has done a lot for us behind the scenes and at the meetings and has been named a trustee for all his work for us.

Product Recall

The members of the Board feels that this information we have received is of such importance that we have to get it out.  We have e-mailed the members who we have their addresses, but we will duplicate it in print.

Safariland Hoslters Models 295 and 2955.  We have received some e-mail that these holsters have been recalled by the company because the trigger block assembly was incorrectly installed in a small number of these model holsters.  These holsters were manufactured between March 1998 and August 1998 inclusive.  To verify the date of manufacture, look for the following date stamps  10-98 to 35-98 signifying the 10 week of 1998 to the 35 week of 1998.  The risk is the holsters weapon retention is compromised.  To test it, place an unloaded  9mm into the holster and snap it in.  If the weapon can be drawn from a locked holster, with the thumb restraints still engaged(snaps still snapped) stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer at Safariland customer service between the hours 7:00am to 4:00pm PST, at 1-800-347-1200. The holster will be inspected and repaired within 1-2 days of receipt and immediately shipped back to the owner.

E-MAIL

As the Lodge moves into the 21st century we have started  a program to get as many of the members e-mails as possible.  This program is strictly an in house tool to get important information, like the product recall out to our members. You can send the email to me at cartonus@frontiernet.net, or call our hotline    This information will not be given  out to anyone but the board, and will not be used to solicit our members.  It is our way of helping our members in a more timely mannner.
