President's Message :

Well, as the summer is now upon us, we have a full schedule ahead of us; Just a reminder, we will continue to have meetings through out the summer, as always, on the second Monday of the month, at the American Legion in Monroe; The only change to this schedule is that the August meeting will be held on the upper pavillion at the Legion; It will be our first BBQ meeting, and if it is a success, we will schedule them for the entire summer.

I would like to thank all the members who helped us at the last meet ing, while we didn't have the turnout we had wanted, you all reached deep in your pockets and saved the turkey shoot.  We will schedule something similiar in the future; All the proceeds go straight to the building fund and is used for nothing else, that fund is a separate entity from our general fund.

In keeping with our goal of assisting fellow cops and departments, the Lodge made a donation to the Poughkeepsie DARE program, which was in danger of not graduating its students due to lack of funds; Cooper and Tobin of the WPDH 101.5 radio Morning Show thanked our Lodge for helping them to help DARE; That is what we are about.

Speaking of Cooper and Tobin, John Tobin has confirmed to be our guest speaker at our next meeting, we don't know about Mark Cooper yet, but stay tuned to WPDH daily as the meeting approaches, they will once again be talking about our Lodge on the air.

Remember, the Conklin Family will be running the 2nd Annual Jason D. Conklin Memorial Golf Outing on July 12, at the Stoney Ford Country Club.  The Lodge is looking for a few volunteers to help us to help the Conklin Family; Any one interested please contact me via e-mail at cartonus@frontiernet.net or call our hotline or you can sign up at the meeting; Last year's outing was a success, let's make this one even bigger.  The proceeds go to the Scholarship fund, for police candidates who must pay their own way through the Police Academy.

August will be our first Annual Guns and Ho ses Softball Tournament; It will be pitting cops and firemen (paid and volunteers) in an all day tournament; It will be hosted at West Point, where we have four fields reserved already; So if you know any one or any team that wants to play call our hot li ne or the softball Chairman, Dom Guidice.

As a few of our members recently went down to Washington DC for the Police Memorial, we will be having some pictures in the next issue; If anyone is planning to visit the Police Memorial soon, please let us know, we would like to get a rubbing of all the Orange County officers killed since 1928, as a part of our Police Memorial Wall.

Finally, congratulations to Dom Guidice, Marc Miller and the rest of the Monroe PD for a successful Yankee Stadium Dare Trip, 3,200 people attended.

Remember, this is your newsletter, any announcements you want to see, please submit them, we will gladly print them.

Lastly, remember, stay safe and wear your vest.

Congratulations to our new member, Bob Mariani on his retirement after 38 years in the NYPD.  He retired as a Lieutentant in the 46 Pct.

On behalf of the Executive Board and the Riso family, we would like to thank all the Lodge Mebers and fellow officers who showed up and paid their respects to our late member Sgt Chris Riso, NYPD who passed away recently after a bout with cancer.

As with all organizations, we have a tendency to sometimes overlook our renewal forms, we are all guilty, but in order to better represent our members  and to get more benefits for you we have to have everyone paid up, so at meetings we will be checking the roster and sending out notices.
