SOAP

Sometimes we see things, and yet we don't really see what is going on in the home life. This is the case with this little boy that I am going to tell you about.

As a bus driver I have to wait for the children to come out of their houses when I pull up in front of them. Like any bus driver I can not leave the bus unattended while I have children on it. Well I pulled up to this one particular house and the little boy that lives there doesn't always come out. I wait patiently a few minutes, but am unable to wait very long there and as a result I have to leave. It has always made me feel really bad because I hate to see any child being left behind. I had no choice but to leave. However, I was able to find out how come this child was missing the bus and missing school.

The little boy had problems getting ready in the morning. I was told his parent liked sleeping in late and because of this the little guy didn't have anyone to help him get up and ready for school. And it seemed that if he were still home when that parent did get up then he would be punished for missing school.

So he came up with an idea that he thought would work. He slept fully clothed on the couch so as not to miss me in the morning. That proved to be a worse problem then missing the bus, because he then had a few accidents in his sleep. And would get on the bus wet and the odor was not only bad for all on the bus but was very embarrassing for this little guy.

At the time I had another job at a Department store and every now and then management would clear out old stock. They would put the old stock on clearance tables. So I was able to get some new clean clothes for this little guy.

I had a real bad trip with him one morning. So when I got him to school I brought him to the nurses office.

We gave him a bar of soap, the clean clothes, and we sent him to class smelling like a rose. Gave him the soap to take home told him he could use it there. Have you ever seen a kid happy with a bar of soap? Neither did I until that day you would have thought we gave him a candy bar. I'm sure your asking or wondering what became of this little guy. I wish I could say; it was toward the end of the year and we never saw the little boy again. We can only hope and pray that this little act of kindness made an impact on his life. And perhaps one day he will cross my path again and will remember me.
