Wizard’s First Rule Review, By Kahlan
This is a GREAT book. Great charecters, great plot, great (Am I using
this adjective too much?) writing. It's a definite 5 star book. The
story is about Richard Cypher, and Kahlan Amnell, but I don't want to
spoil the plot for anyone, so I'll talk in more general terms. The world in
which they live is wonderfully complete and believable, as are the
people that inhabit it. It's touching, at times frightening, and....Well, did I
mention great? It can get you into the story, so the people become
real to you, so you care about them, and worry with them, or laugh with
them. The book is the first in a series, and has had two others up to date
after it, and I must say this one is my favorite. It has a very nice ending
to it, with the sense of the problem resolved, and a happy ending, but
left room for more books. It could easily stand by itself though, which is
a plus. Which is not to say it didn't have faults. It has quite a bit of
violence, and some scenes of torture. I don't think, however, that it ever
has violence meraly for violence's sake, and what is there is part of the
story. Life is violent some times, and they are fighting a war to save their
world, so I think some violence is excusable. The charecters are
wonderful, who soon seem to be like real people, and you soon come
to care about them. Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd, you soon love, and
while you may be some times frusterated with Kahlan, or wish that
Richard would do so and so, instead of what he does, I think that
makes them rather real, for no one is perfect. The villain is hateable, but
understandable, and a complete charecter, not just a stereotype. The
plot is original, and fairly simple, not too many twists and turns all over
the place to confuse you, but enough to fill about 800 pages in the pb
version, so don't worry about being bored. To sum up....Read this
book!
