Thoughts from before I left on my Mission

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true.
(Moroni 10:4)

December 29, 1998

Well, it's to late for a "before the fact" testimony, but I can tell you how I feel before I leave on my mission and that is GREAT! I finally got what I needed to get me on this Mission Sunday the 28th, at my farewell. It feels great to know for certain that what I am doing is the right thing for me to be doing and that it is what my Heavenly Father wants me to be doing. I have finally gotten it through my thick skull that he loves me and this time I won't forget! I love you all! Jake

Thoughts upon being ordained to the office of an Elder

I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.
(Doctrine and Covenants 8:2)

Well, considering the fact that I have been an Elder for a while now, I can only tell you how it feels to be one now, after about four months into my mission. And right now, all I can say is that it is a huge responsibility! It is not easy to be an Elder but it is definately worth it. To help people find great happiness in life and to see them change is a wonderful reward, or should I say blessing. I only pray that I will be the type of person who will be able to live up to the title of an Elder. Love, Jake
