Advent 2 - Bible Sunday

Opening Sentences:

God of prophets: in the wilderness of Jordan You sent a messenger to prepare our hearts for the coming of Your Son.

WE COME TO WORSHIP YOU, TO HEAR THE GOOD NEWS, TO REPENT AND BE READY TO WELCOME OUR SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.

Advent Candle Canticle:

The grace of God has dawned upon the world with healing for all.
The people who walked in darkness have seen I a great light:

light has I dawned upon us,
dwellers in a land as dark as death.
For a boy has been born for us,
a son given to us.

God is love;
and his love was disclosed to us in this,
that he sent his only Son
into the world to bring us life.

We know how generous our Lord Jesus Christ has been:
he was rich, yet for our sake he became poor,
so that through his poverty we might become rich.

God has spoken to us in the Son
whom he has made heir to the whole univense.
The Word became flesh; he came to dwell among us, and we saw his glory, such glory as befits the Father's only Son, full of I grace and truth.

Thanksgiving & Intercession

We pray for God's help as we read His commands in the Bible, or as we listen to His word:

When we are tempted to do or say wrong things, Lord, speak to us in our selfishness:

Help us to be strong.

When we are anxious or afraid, Lord, speak to us in our fearfulness:

Help us to be strong.

When we are ill, or in pain, Lord, speak to us in our helplessness:

Help us to be strong.

When things we have to do seem too hard for us, Lord, speak to us in our weakness:

Help us to be strong.

O God, we will listen to your word;
and by your strength
we will do what you command,
and bring glory to your name.  Amen.
