Thought For The Week

Thought for the week 0003

The Bible Is From God.

We can know there is a God by observing the creation around us. However, we cannot tell what God desires from man merely by observing creation. To know what God wants, there must be revelation. We find that revelation in the Bible.

Listen to the claims made by the Bible concerning its origin. The Hebrew writer argues that God has literally spoken to man as a whole through different means which have been recorded for us.

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

When Balak called upon the prophet Balaam to come and curse Israel, Balaam came. Listen to his reply to Balak.

Numbers 2:38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say anything? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.

The point Balaam was making is that the words were not from him, but from God. Peter makes the same argument.

2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

We see then, that God's mind and will for man has been revealed in the Bible.

The Necessity For Revelation

The Bible tells us we can know there is a God, merely by observing the creation around us. We can deduce that he is a being of power. However, we cannot tell what God desires from man merely by observing creation. To know what God wants, there must be revelation. That is what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:9-11.

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

This has been a consistent principle with God. It was stated by Moses in a slightly different way when he said in Deuteronomy 29:29,

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

God has revealed his will to man in order that man might live a life that is pleasing to God.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Our conclusion must be that if man wants to please God, he must be instructed by God's revealed word.

May God richly bless you in your search for Truth.

God Is!

Have you ever noticed that the Bible makes no effort to prove the existence of God? The fact that God is should be obvious to anyone who observes the world around us and thinks about it. God tells us He is by what He has done. This is what David was saying in Psalms 19:1.

Psalms 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

At night, when you look at the stars, every pinpoint of light is a shout from God saying, "I AM." The Bible tells us we can know there is a God, merely by observing the creation around us. We can deduce that he is a being of power. Paul asserted this in Romans chapter 1, verses 19 and 20.

Romans 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Paul says that even though we have never entered a church house or heard a sermon or read a Bible, we can know God is! We can also know that he is a being of power.

When Moses was told to go to Egypt and tell Pharaoh to free the people of God, Moses wanted to know who he should say sent him. God's reply was a statement of his existence.

Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

This is the beginning place for all of us.

God is...
