Chapter 18

-Beth-
I hurried to my room and threw open my closet doors. I wanted to look just right for tonight. After all, it was Valentine’s Day, and well, I just wanted to look my best. I grabbed a new pair of jeans and looked at them. Nah, I want nicer than jeans. Then I selected a black skirt that was on the short side and a silvery top. My hair needed to be brushed and I still had to put on a little bit of make up. It took me about 7 minutes to get ready. Not bad considering that I had just come back from dancing.

I hurried past the blinking light on my answering machine so I could get back to Taylor. Figuring that it was just going to be Alicia complaining about her boyfriend Matt, I ignored it, got my coat and went back to the Explorer that was waiting ever so patiently in front of my house.

-Taylor-
Beth emerged from her house. She looked completely stunning. In her hand she carried her black purse and she quickly slung it over her shoulder before she opened the front passenger door.

A light snow had begun to fall and her hair was laced with sparkling snowflakes, making her look so incredibly angelic. She slid into my car with perfect grace, then leaned over and kissed my cheek.

“Happy Valentine’s Day.” She said. I smiled, secretly thinking of seeing her eyes light up when I gave her her gift.

“Yeah, happy Valentine’s Day.” I replied and gently rubbed my hands over hers. I shifted the Explorer into 1st gear and pulled away from her house, jerking a little on my pull out. Sure, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best driver in the world, especially with a standard stick shift, but I was getting better each day. I got to the end of her road, then turned towards downtown.

“So, where are we going?” she asked, adjusting the seatbelt. I glanced at her briefly before replying, then slid my hand on her bare leg [because she was wearing that really short sexy black skirt] and rubbed her leg gently. She smiled, then placed her hand over top of mine.

“Downtown.” I said, returning my concentration back to the road, removing my hand from her leg to shift gears.

“Well, I kind of already figured that part out when you got on the highway.” She said. I stole a look into my mirrors and went into the passing lane to get around the slow guy that we were behind.

“Oh, so you want specifics?” I teased her. I saw her smile from the corner of my eye, then continued, “I was thinking that I’d take you to see that chic-flick that you’ve been wanting to see.” I began. Her eyes lit up. I knew that she would like that.

“Are you sure? I don’t want you to sit there being tortured if you don’t want to be.” she said. Actually, I saw previews for it and it looked like a decent movie, so I didn’t really mind. While she asked me, she removed her seat belt, then scooted closer to me, placing her hand on my inner thigh. I had to look down at her hand, then to her and smile. She knew how much I loved that.

“I’m sure.” I replied, making her smile again. “Then we’ll go to Tony’s for some dinner and then after that, the night is totally up to you...just as long as I have you in by your curfew.” I added. I didn’t want to have her out past her curfew because last time I did that, her dad looked like he wanted to kill me and that is something that I never wanted to be put through again. I actually shuddered at the thought of the consequences I would have to pay for bringing her home late.

“You don’t have to worry about my dad. His bark is far much worse than his bite.” She said. Heh, yeah right. I still wanted to have her home by curfew though. It wasn’t too bad. 12:30 was pretty fair. I quickly calculated how much alone time we would get tonight. The movie would be about 1 ˝ hours, dinner would be about an hour, plus ˝ hour traveling time and then another 15 minutes to get back to her place...that left about an hour or so left. I was thinking of taking her to this look out thing, but I didn’t want her to get the wrong impression.

-Beth-
I did some quick math in my head. If everything after dinner was going to be up to me, then we would have about a good hour, maybe a little bit more, hmmm. This is definitely going to be a night that neither one if us is going to forget.

As we drove, I could tell that Taylor had something up his sleeve. Could he possibly be thinking the same thing as me? I wasn’t sure, but it looks like he’s in the process of plotting something. I was kind of confused. If all we were doing was going to see a movie, then to Tony’s, then why were we going all the way to downtown Tulsa? There was a theater about five minutes away from my house and there were other Italian restaurants closer than downtown. He has to have other reasoning behind coming all the way downtown.

We stopped at a theater. I wasn’t too familiar with downtown Tulsa, so I didn’t know the name of it. All I know is that it was a huge theater and the parking lot was packed. Somehow, though, Taylor managed to find a great parking spot. He took my hand in his and then we walked into the theater.

After our tickets were bought, we found seats in the back of the theater. Surprisingly enough, there was only about 20 other people in the theater with us when the movie started. They were like, older married couples and they were all sitting towards the middle. Talk about luck.

The lights darkened and the previews started. I looked at Tay and smiled. I was so lucky to have him. He met my eyes and smiled. I puckered my lips and kissed the air; he did the same. This was something that we always did when we wanted a kiss but were either too far away to physically kiss each other or wanted the other to make the first move. I smiled, and we both leaned forwards at the same time. Our lips touched. The kiss was short, short but really sweet. Sometimes I liked the short kisses better than the longer ones. He knows that I don’t really like to do too much in public, for some reason I get embarrassed easily in public, but since there wasn’t anyone around, I kissed him again before he pulled away. I could tell this surprised him, but soon he slipped his hand behind the nape of my neck and he pulled me closer to him, or as close as we could get at the movies.
