BENJAMIN Northup was born 1662 in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island, the son of Stephen Northup, Sr. and Elizabeth Harrington , and died 7 June 1750 in North Kingston, Rhode Island. He married (1) SUSANNAH ALMY 3 July 1681 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island (She was born Abt. 1663 in near Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island, and died 1710.) He married (2) ?? 3 July 1718. (She was born Abt. 1667)

Note - John B. Northup:
My speculation for the children of Benjamin and Susannah might include Elizabeth (b. 12 Feb 1714) and Hannah (b. abt 1703). Both Elizabeth and Hannah I had previously listed as belonging possibly to Joseph and Hopestill, but a complete list of their children from Jane Kern did not include them. That they existed is without doubt, that they are in no other 3rd generation listing makes them quite likely Ben's as he is reported to have had 8 children. On the records, they are variously called Northrop, Northrip, and Northrup, but I tend to discount that Mass. record keepers (I believe) set the record in creating new ways to spell our name (over 20). It now appears possible that the reason Ben gave his property to Patience and Robert Hazard is that his children were no longer in Rhode Island.
There are a couple of Newport entries that could be tied to Ben, one is John Northrop, who m. Mary King 23 Aug 1747, and another is Mary Northup, who m. Ebenezer Slocum 8 Jun 1738.
There is also listed a Margaret Northup listed as m. Palmer Cleveland 1 Jun 1751, but I think that line was another line. JN 30 Dec 1995.
Benjamin gave his niece, Patience, and her husband, Robert Hazard, land near Hammonds Mill on 17 Nov. 1747.
