Joseph II Northup was born in Ogdensburg March 15, 1854, the son of Sarah Ann Weller and Joseph Northup I. His Mother died when he was two months old, and he was adopted by his Aunt and Uncle, Taylor & Cyrene Northup. His birth Father later remarried and moved to Louisiana, where he died.

Joseph came to Alexandria Bay when very young and spent practically all of his life in this town. He was a cheesemaker in his early days and game warden for 28 years, re-ceiving a No. 1 badge from New York State for efficiency and faith-ful service. At one time he conducted a general store. For two years he was a member of the border patrol and deputy sheriff for five years. He was a member of Alexandria lodge, No. 297, F. & A. M.

Northup born 1884—died 1912 and he married Abt. 1907 Mary C. ? and they had 1 child that died at birth (because in the 1910 census they are listed as being married 3 years and no children but on the stone in the cemetery the baby for Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Northup Jr. died 1910) 3. Winfred A. Northup born 1888 – died 1963 and married Elsie Dons born 1894 -- died 1977. I don’t know if they had any children because I couldn’t find any obituaries for either one. 4. Maxwell C. Northup born 1895 -- died 1970 and married Margaret Foy born 1898 -- died 1993 and they had at least 1 daughter Patricia Northup Vadebancoeur. Joseph Northup II married second time Abt. 1909 Jessie Estes born 1880—died 1951 and I think that they had 1 child who died at birth in 1912 (the stone reads child of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Northup Sr.) In Joseph obituary Jessie last name is listed as Gordon, don’t know if she was married before or what. In her obituary she is listed as Jessie Estes Northup and her father was John W. Estes and her brother as Lewis J. Estes. Joseph died in Alexandria Bay on Oct 21, 1929.
