Stephen Northup Jr. was born 1660 in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island, the 1st son of Stephen Northup Sr. He lived at North Kingston. Stephen married Mary Thomas 11 July 1684 in Jamestown, Newport Co., Rhode Island. She was born in 1664 in or near Jamestown, Newport Co., Rhode Island, and died 26 December 1754. They had eleven, or possibly twelve children.
Stephen Northup jr. testified sometime in 1721 that he was 61 years old and that he had known the Pequot Path for 48 years. In 1687 he bought a tract of land on Boston Neck, known as the Middlefield Farm. Stephen died on June 12, 1733 in N. Kingston, R.I. There is quite a bit of historical data available on this family and I will be linking in some of this State of Rhode Island records in the near future.
The Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1776:
1 June 1731. Deposition by Ferdinando John Paris of the Inner Temple, London, gent, that the Privy Council had considered an appeal brought by Eunice Wharton against two verdicts given in Rhode Island relating to properties in North Kingston in favour of Stephen Northup, Thomas Northup, Benjamin Northup, Henry Northup Jr., Nicholas Northup and
Lawrence Whaley, and on 23 December 1730 ordered a re-trial in Rhode Island. The deponent had discovered that the will of Richard Wharton had been proved in April 1690 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, but that Court refused to send the original to Rhode Island. (LMC).
