NOXAPATER 14, ETHEL 12 (HOME) 10-12-57

The Noxapater Tigers put their undefeated record on the line against Ethel of the Mid-State Athletic Conference. After breezing through the first five games without surrendering a point, the Tigers had their first real challenge of the season. Ethel led 12-0 at halftime, but fumbled the opening kickoff of the third quarter due to a jarring hit by Ebb Fox. This set up Noxapater's first score, a two-yard run by Charles Ray Walters. Ralph Price hit Homer McBrayer for the conversion. (All PAT's were for a single point). With Ethel holding a 12-7 lead late in the game, Noxapater had the ball fourth and goal on Ethel's four. Price hit Paul Allen at the one and the receiver fell across the goal for the winning score. Jimmy Kemp kicked the extra point.

NOXAPATER 25, SHUQUALAK 18 (AWAY) 11-5-60

The Tigers entered the game on a six-game winning streak having just beaten a strong Nanih Waiya team. Shuqualak was obviously the weaker team, but their players were pumped up emotionally. Shuqualak High was scheduled to be abolished after the 1961 school year and this would be their last game ever. The home team took an 18-0 halftime lead and Noxapater coach Doug Sullivan loaded the team on the bus and threatened to take them home. The Tigers came back in the second half on three Fletcher Reed touchdown runs to tie the score at 18 with less than a minute to play. Unwilling to settle for a tie, Shuqualak came out throwing and Noxapater's Bobby Hudson picked off a pass and returned it for the winning points. Noxapater finished the year 8-2.

NOXAPATER 19, EDINBURG 13 (AWAY) 10-9-64

Edinburg scored first and led 7-0. Noxapater's Rudy Pope ran 50 yards off left tackle to cut the lead to 7-6, but Edinburg answered that score and took a 13-6 lead into halftime. Pope caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Randy Kemp in the third and Kemp's PAT tied the game at 13. Noxapater had the ball on Edinburg's seven with four seconds remaining. Kemp rolled right and lobbed a pass to Billy Wayne Coward in the back corner of the end zone for the game-winner.

NOXAPATER 21, NANIH WAIYA 12 (LOUISVILLE) 11-10-67

Coach Buck Kennedy's Tigers were not supposed to be able to stay on the field with the talented Warriors who had won two straight in the series by a combined score of 45-0. Nanih Waiya would go undefeated and win the Big Black championship the next season. Sophomore tailback Jerry Ricks broke an 87-yard run down the sideline on the game's first play. His five-yard scoring run made the score 7-0. Ricks then raced 67 yards for another touchdown to extend the lead. Scotty Smith added the third score. Noxapater had 360 yards rushing in the game with Ricks claiming 312 on 25 carries.

NOXAPATER 20, ETHEL 7 (HOME) 9-4-70

Senior quarterback Freddy Woodward had a field day against Ethel, throwing for 263 yards on 17/38 with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. The scoring passes were to Hurie Hornesburger (30 yards) and Jacky French (35 and 15 yards) and David Hatcher caught the conversion. The most significant aspect of the game, however, was that black players participated in Tiger uniforms for the first time. The inclusion of black athletes was a major factor in creating the football juggernaut at Noxapater that bulldozed the competition in the coming years.

NOXAPATER 3, WEIR 0 (HOME) 9-22-72

This western division showdown was, in effect, the conference title game. Weir was led by junior running back Dennis Johnson who would have an outstanding career at Mississippi State. Senior Roy Johnson, who would sign with Miami, anchored a Weir defense that would only surrender 23 points on the season. The only points on this rainy night came on a 25-yard Crawford Parker field goal. The holder, Mark Robinson, fumbled the snap from William Carter and barely got the ball in place. Noxapater went 11-0 and won the conference title.

NOXAPATER 21, MABEN 13 (AWAY) 9-10-76

In one of the most exciting games ever, Noxapater stole a game from Maben in overtime. The Blue Devils took the lead 7-0 on a Jack Vaughn 25-yard run in the first, but Theodore Triplett's 2-yard run later in the period tied the game. That was how regulation ended. Randy Hornesburger threw to Bennie Earl Moore on the first play of the second overtime to put the Tigers up 13-7. Chuck Reed's crucial PAT kick was no good. Mike Langford tied the game for Maben, but the Tigers blocked the potential game-winning extra point to send the game to a third overtime. Noxapater won the game with a 10-yard Triplett run on the first play of the fourth extra period.

NOXAPATER 14, WEIR 10 (HOME) 10-27-78

Noxapater scored 14 points in the second half to erase a 10-0 halftime deficit. Weir quarterback Tim Cutts scored a touchdown and kicked a field goal to give the visiting Lions the lead. Willie Glass scored on a one-yard run for the Tigers and Charles Phillips got the winning touchdown on a 25-yard fumble return late in the fourth.

NOXAPATER 27, NANIH WAIYA 20 (AWAY) 9-2-83

Noxapater running back Sedrick Jordan began the scoring with a 71-yard punt return in the first. His 24-yard touchdown run in the second pushed the lead to 13-0. Nanih Waiya got two scoring runs from Chester Sanders to take a 14-13 lead into intermission. Jordan scored the winning touchdown in the fourth to break a 20-20 tie. He had 169 yards rushing in the game.

NOXAPATER 21, STURGIS 14 (AWAY) 9-28-84

The third-ranked Tigers got touchdowns from three different players to run their record to 4-0. Sedrick Jordan opened the scoring with a 51-yard run and Noxapater held a slim 7-6 lead at halftime. Steven Lee had a five-yard scoring run in the third to take a 14-6 lead. After Sturgis tied the game, Paul David Hamilton scored the winning touchdown on a 71-yard punt return in the fourth.

NOXAPATER 17, NANIH WAIYA 10 (AWAY) 9-6-85

Warrior quarterback Ronnie Williamson kicked a field goal and hit D.D. Overstreet on a 34-yard scoring play to put Nanih Waiya up 10-0 at halftime. Coach Mike Hatcher's Tigers came back strong in the third quarter as Brian Young hit Hugh Vanlandingham with a 20-0 yard TD pass. Will Boswell passed to David Wells for the conversion and the score was 10-8 Nanih Waiya. Still in the third, Young drilled a 30-yard field goal to put Noxapater ahead 11-10. Douglas Lynch added an insurance score late in the game. Noxapater led in total offense 290-132.

NOXAPATER 13, PUCKETT 12 (AWAY) 9-4-87

The Tigers were ranked #10 in the state, but had to rally for 13 fourth quarter points to win. Javis Wragg scored the winning touchdown on an 8-yard run with 56 seconds to go in the game. Beverly Robbins' 1-yard sneak and Wert Spiva's PAT had closed the Puckett lead to 12-7 earlier in the period. Davie Fletcher had opened the fourth with a touchdown to put Puckett in the lead 12-0. Spiva would have 35 PAT's for the year, but none would be this big.

NOXAPATER 17, DURANT 16 (AWAY) 9-15-89

Bryan Hoskin's 43-yard field goal gave Noxapater a 3-0 lead early. Durant's Corey Large threw for a score and ran for another to take a 14-3 lead into halftime. Noxapater's Anthony Robertson returned the second half kickoff 85 yards to cut the lead to 14-9. Late in the fourth, Noxapater's Chris Hathorn returned a fumble 60 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Tommy Glass hit Derrick Jordan for the conversion to put the Tigers on top 17-14. Noxapater took an intentional safety with nine seconds to play. Linebacker Derreck Cook had 17 solo tackles in the game for Noxapater.

NOXAPATER 7, WEIR 6 (HOME) 9-29-89

The game entered the fourth quarter scoreless. Weir quarterback Bobby Woodard hit Keinda Turner from 46 to give Weir the lead 6-0. Tommy Glass hit Anthony Robertson on an 8-yard scoring pass with 56 seconds to play to tie the game. Brian Hoskin's extra point won the game for the Tigers.

NOXAPATER 21, CHOCTAW CENTRAL 14 (AWAY) 10-19-90

The Tigers came back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take first place in 5-1A. Tommy Glass hit Wes Triplett on a 45-yard pattern and that stood up for the win. The victory allowed Noxapater to host Pelahatchie in the first round of the state playoffs.

NOXAPATER 28, FRENCH CAMP 26 (AWAY) 11-7-97

The Tigers came back from a 20-14 deficit at the half to take this seesaw contest. Senior quarterback Dewaski Burnside had 330 yards rushing and scored on runs of 70, 70, and 90 yards to bring Noxapater another victory. He had 228 yards rushing the previous week against B.L. Moor and finished the year with 1177 yards rushing.

NOXAPATER 24, DURANT 20 (HOME) 10-29-99

Both teams entered the game with 8-1 records. Noxapater's win secured homefield advantage in the first round of the state playoffs. Scott Shurden kicked two field goals and Ryan Smith hit Derek Carter on a 39-yard screen pass to give Noxapater a 14-7 lead at the half. Smith hit De Hornesburger from 12 and the lead grew to 21-7 in the third. Another Shurden field goal with three minutes to play gave the Tigers the win.
