FRED WALSH 1949 - 1986 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, FOREMAN, CREW CHIEF, ASST INSPECTOR, ASST DIRECTOR - MAINTENANCE FTW GSW DAL DEN In June '03 my wife & I attended our high school reunion in N. Ft. Worth. I was enjoying a cool drink of water while my wife was talking to old friends. I noticed someone had sat down next to me. Lo & behold if it wasn't Fred Walsh from DEN. The banquet was the next night at Will Rogers coliseum in FTW. Fred attended it also. He graduated the same school in 1937. Fred has always been one of my favorite people. Thanks for the memories, Fred. -Brady White (4/22/04) Fred Walsh was Central. He was a line foreman when i arrived in 55. The first time I ever saw Fred was in 1953 I believe. I was flying a cub around Ft. Worth .and landed at an old airport east of Ft Worth. The weather was rotten and i thought i'd better find a place to squat for a spell; so i picked this little postage stamp. We tied Her up went inside out of the rain and jawed for a spell; after it quit raining i took off and headed for south ft. worth and put her up; enjoyed talking with fred. never put eyes on him till 55 when I hired in. -Brady White (4/22/04) Brady phoned to let me know he would be sending $20 to re-new his sub. He said Fred Walsh who lives in California had a heart attack but was recovering. He is now 78 and goes to lots of doctors. John Leslie lives in the Ft. Fred started to work for Central Airlines December 7, 1949, at (FTW) Meacham Field as a mechanic. At Central Airlines he was; Mechanic, Crew Chief, Foreman, Asst. Director of Maintenance. After the merger Oct 1, 1967. For Frontier Airlines: He was a Foreman at GSW. In Denver, he was a Foreman, General Foreman, Mainenance Planner and Manager of Technical Training until the shutdown Aug.1986. -Ken Schultz (9/13/06) Fred N. Walsh 1925 - 2006 Fred N. Walsh, 80, died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006. Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in Greenwood Chapel. Fred was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Fort Worth to Helen and Blount Walsh. He grew up on Fort Worth's Seminary Hill and was the first graduate of Technical High School's airframe and power plant program. While still in high school he became a pilot and also began his long career in aircraft repair and maintenance, which would take him to many parts of the U.S., Mexico, Canada, South America and Europe. Before retiring, he would serve as director of maintenance and also as director of training for several airlines. He was passionately devoted to his family, friends, hunting, baseball, the history of aviation and "fixing broken airplanes." Fred, or Derf as he was affectionately known by his siblings, was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Betty Ruth Creed Walsh, the mother of his children. Survivors: Wife from second marriage, Marianne Walsh; daughter, Kim Monroe and husband, Rick, and their son, Connor, of Carlsbad, Calif.; son, Patrick Walsh and wife, Britta, and their children, Jamie, Justine, Nikolas and Emily of Wettenberg, Germany; stepson, David Holzmann and wife, Nava, and their daughters, Tal and Yval of Rishon-Eltzion, Israel; and siblings, Peggy Bell and Helen Cluck, both of Fort Worth, Mary Reaugh of Breckenridge, Margaret Walsh of Richardson and James and Harry Walsh, both of Houston, and their families. A pilot and lifelong aircraft maintenance expert from Fort Worth, Mr. Walsh cut his teeth flying crop-dusters in South Texas and working on planes at Meacham Field. He was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Fort Worth, one of 13 children of Blount and Helen Walsh. He died Sept. 6 in Carlsbad, Calif. He was 80.
