THE OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN PAGE

Olivia Newton-John was born on September 26th 1948 in Cambridge, England. At the age of 5 she moved to Australia with her family, where her father became dean of studies at Melbourne's Ormond College. Shortly after, her parents divorced. Olivia was interested in showbusiness from an early age and at the age of 12 won a Hayley Mills Lookalike contest at her local cinema. A few years later she won a talent contest which got her a spot on Australian TV and also a trip to London. In 1966 a young Olivia arrived in London and recorded her first single "Till You Say You'll Be Mine". She was soon appearing alongside Cliff Richard on his Tv show, and in 1970 she made her film debiut in the majorly-hyped but financially disastrous 'Toomorrow' a sci-fi musical made to showcase the band she was part of 'Toomorrow'. Solo chart success began with her first Top Ten hit 'If Not For You' in 1971. A move to America in 1974 launched Olivia on the road to international singing stardom....Her career reached its peak in 1978 when she starred alongside John Travolta in the movie GREASE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and won the People's Choice Award for Most Popular Screen Actress. She performed 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' at the Oscars. However big-screen success wasn't to last and her next film the musical fantasy XANADU was a critical and commercial disaster. The album of the film however was a huge success, and Olivia followed this with the album and song 'Physical' in 1981 which topped the US charts for a record 10 weeks !! However more setbacks came with her re-teaming with Travolta in the awful 1982 film TWO OF A KIND. In 1990 Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer which she bravely fought and is now fully recovered. She has appeared on screen in 1996's IT'S MY PARTY and wrote and recorded the album GAIA:ONE WOMAN'S JOURNEY (1994). 1998 saw the release of a brand new album (the successful Nashville produced 'Back With A Heart') as well as the cinematic re-release of GREASE to mark its 20th anniversary which involved a world wide publicity tour, culminating in the ultimate credibility boost, an appearance on Chris Evan's TFI Friday. Olivia has recently starred in the new film comedy 'Sordid Lives' whcih is due for release in February 2001.
