I am happy to introduce KOREA the Land of the morning calm.
Many students, businessmen and tourists have found the information to be useful guides to the Republic of Korea. Korea is one of the fastest chaning countries in the fastest growing region of the world, but is , nevertheless, rooted in traditions that stretch back to 2333 B.C., when Tan-gun--half divine and half human--founded a nation with lofty ideals from which all Koreans have drawn spiritual strength through the centuries.
The civilian, democratic Administration of President Kim Young Sam, inaugurated in 1993, immediatily began sweeping reforms to create a New Korea--an economically thriving and corruption-free democratic society, providing a good life for its people. At the same time the nation began to look outward more earnestly than ever before, taking "internationalization" and "globalizaation" as watchwords for the future. As part of this process, Korea intends to make greater contributions to regional and international peace and prosperity and to make a greater presence felt on such global issue as free trade, human rights, the environment and the developmint of human resources.
I will take the Internet Gallery into the nation's misty past to provide a context to understand the dynamism of the present and its vision of the future--a future in which a peacefully unified country is able to play an even greater and more constructive global role. I hope that it will increase your interest in things Korean and strengthen the bonds of understanding and good will, helping to bring all peoples of the world closer together.
