MS Crown Jewel - Crown Cruise Line

This pretty little boat was built in Spain in 1992 for Commodore Cruise Lines. Commodore decided against incorporating it into it’s aging fleet, choosing instead to begin the new, upscale, Crown Cruise Line. Almost immediately, the idea foundered, and Commodore found itself soliciting Cunard for advice, a case of the blind leading the blind if ever there was one. Cunard took over the marketing of the line, incorporating it into its own product along with Cunard Countess and Cunard Princess. This too was bound for failure!

Crown Jewel is 19,046 tons. 537 feet long. 74 feet wide with a 17.7 foot draft. She was Liberian registered with Scandinavian/European Officers. She had a Filipino crew. She is diesel powered.

Under Cunard’s control, she sailed as “Cunard Crown Jewel. 1n 1995, she was sold to Asian based Star Cruises, where she is currently sailing as MS SuperStar Gemini.

Crown Jewel, has one twin sister ship, Crown Dynasty which is currently sailing for Norwegian Cruise Line as their MS Norwegian Dynasty.
