Which Guide to the Moody Cow The Moody Cow is a smart beast, tended by a 'dapper, highly professional landlord', and befriended by an equally smart clientele. It doubles as pub and 'bistro' (in fact, there are two dining-rooms - one cosy and countrified, the other in bare-wooded provencale style). One menu covers the whole set-up. The kitchen is keen on artistic presentation, although portions across the board are in the trencherman mould. Reporters have enjoyed appetising melon balls and prawns with yogurt and dill dressing, warm shellfish salad 'with Thai overtones', home-made fish-cakes with rich parsley sauce, and breast of 'sweet roasted' duck with ginger and orange sauce. Fish and chips is served the old-fashioned way in newspaper. Desserts have included a version of bread-and-butter pudding that one couple thought was the best they had eaten outside their own home; banoffi pie has also hit the button. Sunday lunch brings a much appreciated roast. A decent line-up of draught beers includes Bass, Wye Valley Bitter, Flowers West Country Pale Ale and others; 40 wines span the globe. Paul's Pub Crawl - The Moody Cow (updated 19 March 2000) A favorite lunch time pub for me - The Moody Cow - at Crow Hill, Upton Bishop near Ross on Wye Herefordshire - has something for everyone. The food is very good with specialties like COW PIE WITH HORNS - a complete meal with everything hidden under the pastry and FISH AND CHIPS WITHOUT NEWSPAPER - it used to be with newspaper but EEC rules OK - This was about the best use for unused prints of the Ross Gazette - also known as the three minute silence (about how long it takes to read it).
