Hampshire Scouts' Mountain Team run Single Pitch Supervisor Award Courses which are approved by the Mountain Leader Training Board.
The SPSA training course is the training element of the nationally recognised award for supervising single pitch rock climbing. The course follows the syllabus which was developed by the BMC and MLTB. It is the recommended training course of Hampshire Scouts’ Mountain Team for aspirant Form M applicants who wish tosupervise activities on single pick rock climbs. It is recommended that applicants should have a minimum of 12 days of rock climbing experience. Please note that the course fees do not include registration with the MLTB which is a requirement for your course is to be recognised and recorded with the MLTB. We recommend that applicants have a minimum of 12 days of rock climbing experience and have completed the Walls & Towers training course. On completion of the course your logbook will be endorsed and, having gained appropriate experience, you may undertake the assessment for the SPSA with HMT or with any other course provider approved by the MLTB. SPSA Training can be undertake by prior arrangement through any MLTB approved centre. Hampshire County Council run SPSA training courses which are approved by the MLTB in the same way as the HSMT courses.
Assessment for the Nationally recognised Single Pitch Supervision Award (SPSA) can be undertaken through HSMT. The course is intended for Scout Leaders who supervise young people rock climbing and abseiling on single pitch crags. Candidates must have be registered with the MLTB, have attended an approved SPSA training course and complete the log book requirements of the MLTB. SPSA Assessment can be undertake through any MLTB approved centre. Hampshire County Council runs a SPSA Assessment course which is approved by the MLTB in the same way as the HSMT course.
