Thus Defiled were formed in March 1992 by Paul Carter with a view to creating some of the most devastating music within the extreme metal scene. The music from the begining has always been steeped in philosophies and beliefs of the darkest nature; an inexorable link to the power and shadow of night.
Musical individuality has always been of paramount importance to the band, and this is borne out across all of their releases to date. THUS DEFILED stad as one of the all to few bands within the Black MEtal scene that have something truly unique to offer. Each release has shown a marked progression within the structure of each composition, and the latest studio recording has already been hailed by many influential musicians and journalists as one of the greatest works to date within the extreme metal genre.
Stylistically, THUS DEFILED create an epic soundscape of a depth and feel most bands cannot hope to attain; a majestic symbiosis of intricate, encapturing guitar harmonies set against an ever present air of brooding malevolance. Added to this, the dynamic use of haunting and evocative keyboard passages combine to create an overall sound which is dynamic, bewitching and sinister; a conjuration of pure darkness.
The band have performed around 45 live shows to date, and their excellent reputaion for their intense performances has secured them support slots with many of the foremost bands in the metal scene such as : CANNIBAL CORPSE (US), IMMOLATION (US), CRADLE OF FILTH (UK), MOONSPELL (POR), DISSECTION (SWE), as well as headlining many shows throuhout the UK and Europe by their own right.
THUS DEFILED have featured in and gained excellent reviews from many major magazines worldwide including : TERRORIZER (UK), KERRANG!
