Chapter 2 The ships left Deep Space Nine and headed toward Dominion held territory, "Captain once we've reached the edge of their boarder, we'll cloak and head towards their facility at maximum warp," Sisko explained to the other captain over subspace. "Lieutenant how long until we reach their boarder?" asked Leeworth. "Sir we are about five-hundred-million kilometers from their border. It will take us about two minutes at this speed to reach it," Aloota told the commander. "Initiate the cloaking device, commander," ordered Kataka. As the ship cloaked the lights dimmed and the ship went to red alert status and the klaxons went off for a while. The Defiant did the same as the Hawking cloaked. The sensors worked as they were supposed to, detecting the other ship so they wouldn't run into each other. * * * From the bridge of a Jem'Hadarr fighter the screen which was following the movements of the two ships, went blank as the ships cloaked. "Set course for the last known position of those two Federation ships," ordered the First in a stern voice. "The ships are gone, they're not here in this sector!" exclaimed one of the Jem'Hadarr soldiers. "That's impossible!" shouted the Vorta. "There, there's an ion trail leading towards the facility." "Set course and intercept them. Use the antiproton particle sweep to see if there are any cloaked vessels out there," ordered the First. * * * A minute later the Jem'Hadarr caught up to the Defiant and the Hawking which were at impulse speed. "Captain I believe they've detected us," said Jarvon. "That's impossible!" the captain said with a worried look. A photon torpedo from the Dominion ship was launched at the Hawking. "All hands prepare for impact!" ordered the captain. Nothing happened, the torpedo flew right through them. "Lieutenant Anderthol target their warp core and fire four quantum torpedoes maximum yield. They won't be prepared for this attack. Fire!" Leeworth ordered. The Hawking launched the quantum torpedoes and they hit the other ship with such an impact that when it blew up there was only ionized gas floating in the cold depths of space. "Wow, I didn't think it would work!" exclaimed the younger members of the crew. "I hope that's the only ship that we have to deal with for now," said Commander Schwartz with a sigh of relief. "Back to our original course heading, Mr. Leafhire," the captain ordered, relieved that the cloak worked. The Hawking caught up to the Defiant, which had stopped when the Dominion ship fired at it. Meanwhile while the Hawking was being attacked the Defiant was monitoring the battle, seeing if the cloak would actually work. When it did the whole ship sighed a sigh of relieve because if it hadn't the dominion would surely go after them too, because even with a normal cloak given to them by the Romulans the Defiant was too powerful for the cloak and it released energy which would normally be hidden by the cloak. "What is our ETA for the facility, Lieutenant Nog?" asked Captain Sisko. "We will be arriving tat the co-ordinates in about fifteen minutes, captain," he answered. "Did you get that Hawking?" asked Sisko over the open comm. link. "Yes we did," replied Leeworth. Because the captain had gone to take a nap, just after the fight ended. * * * Fifteen minutes later they arrived at the facility, "Captain Kataka, ready all weapons and prepare to fire," said Captain Sisko. "Weapons ready, ready to fire at your command," replied Captain Kataka. "FIRE!" when he said this, both ships launched an onslaught of quantum torpedoes and high-energy phaser fire at the ships being built, and at the space station they were orbiting. Once the onslaught had ended after an hour of fighting all that was left of the ships and the station were small fragments of metal, which the computer could not recognize. "Let's get outta here before they send the rest of the fleet to destroy us!" Captain Sisko ordered. "Captain I'm detecting six Jem'Hadarr fighters closing in on our position," yelled Anderthol. "Captain Sisko there are six Jem'Hadarr fighters closing at warp speed..." Anthony exclaimed as the transmission was cut off by a jamming signal. "Nog, set course back to Federation space, maximum warp." "Aye aye sir, setting course back to the Federation." "Engage!" The Hawking did the same, as the ships were fired upon. "Damage report Lieutenant?" the worried captain of the Hawking asked. "There is no damage to the ship captain," Anderthol said surprised. "Captain we are approximately nine-hundred kilometers from the boarder," said Jarvon. "As soon as we clear Dominion space decloak, raise shields and fire at the Dominion ships," ordered Anthony. "Decloaking, raising shields, sir," said Anderthol as they entered Federation space. "Lieutenant fire all weapons!" Commander Leeworth shouted as the ships fired at them. All ships were destroyed when the rest of the fleet from Deep Space Nine joined up with the Hawking and the Defiant. * * * Once the fleet arrived back at the station, Admiral Jeremiah Lexington took charge of the situation. Admiral Lexington was an older man with grey hair and a deep scar above his left eyebrow. He was a serious man who didn't take anything lightly. In the wardroom the senior officers gathered again, admiral Lexington told them why he had taken over, "...the last fight was the first battle that we've won in a long time," said the admiral. "Now that the cloaking devices have proven that they work even better than thought, the Dominion has no way of defending themselves, we will retake the territory that we lost and finally win this long and bloody war." "From the recordings taken from the two ships Chief O'Brian and I have determined why the Dominion detected us in the first place," said Jarvon. "The ships are too powerful that they emit a low level ion trail from the impulse engines. The ion trail does not exist when the ship is in warp," Chief O'Brian explained. "I have found a way to hide the ion trail, by using a deflector grid, and sending out low radiation isotope pulses which will seem like it is background radiation to other ships," Jarvon told the people sitting at the table. "Jarvon and I can finish the task with some help from Commander Chilec and the rest of the engineering team from Deep Space Nine and the Hawking in about four hours for both ships," Chief O'Brian explained, showing the diagram of the ships and the pulse emitters. "All right get on to it and tell me when you have finished, you are now dismissed," ordered Admiral Lexington. * * * In the engine room of the Hawking O'Brian and Chilec were hard at work installing the isotope pulse emitter which was being installed beside the tractor beam emitter. After two hours they were finished with the Hawking, then they moved onto the Defiant, which they finished in one and a half-hours because it was a small ship. Once they were done and reported to Admiral Lexington, Kelli went to Anthony's quarters where she knew he would be reading. The door chime rang while Anthony was at his desk looking at the ship design and layout, "Come in," said Anthony in a calm voice as Kelli walked. "Captain we've finished ahead of schedule and we're done for the day," she said in a tired yet sexy voice while she sat on his bed. "Kelli how would you like to come with me to the holodeck?" Anthony asked, "I still have the program that you really like." "Oh? Which one?" "The one where we had our first date together, the one in Paris, with the full moon," Anthony told his girlfriend. "Nah, I just want to stay here and be with you, my little explorer." "I love it when you call me that," then they kissed on the bed and spent another night together, full of love and lust, which they both expressed to each other in the sack. * * * The next morning they both ran around his quarters trying to find her clothes before she started her duty shift. "See ya later Anthony, if you want me I'll be in main engineering," Kelli told her lover. "I'll see you there in a few hours when I finish approving these du..." she kissed him before he could finish his sentence, a long sexual kiss which seem to last forever. "See you later my little explorer," she said as she left him standing half-naked in the corridor. As Kelli walked down to the turbo lift she was thinking about how they were going to fight the Dominion, reclaim their territory, and all of the people who have lost their lives because of the war. The biggest war that involved Starfleet since the Romulan and Klingon wars in the twenty-second century. "Captain's log: Stardate 54268.1. It is the third day since I have assumed command of the U.S.S. Hawking. It is still hard to believe how much more powerful this ship is compared to the Roddenberry. The ship totally dominated the battle at Starbase 275 although the starbase was lost and the mission to destroy the ship building facility deep in Dominion held territory. Still we've come a long way, now we're prepared to fight against the largest threat to the Federation since the last two Borg incidents. Now with the cloak the Dominion doesn't stand a chance, taking over the Federation and the rest of the Alpha Quadrant. The Federation will prevail no matter what the Dominion throws at us. We'll make those Cardi bastards think twice before they make another move against us," Kataka said to the computer to finish off his day's business, "Computer end log." ************************************************************************ The end for now tune in next week for more.
