Prologue "Shields up, red alert, all crew to battle stations!" came the order from Captain Anthony Kataka a young oriental man, over the comm. system of the Omega class starship, while he sat at his chair on the bridge of the U.S.S. Roddenberry which he had commanded for the past three years. "We have engaged the Borg!" The Borg were headed on a direct course, for sector 001 and earth. There they would enslave the human race, and the rest of the Federation, if they weren't stopped. Volley after volley of heavy weapons fire upon the Borg cube had no effect in slowing them down or stopping them dead in their tracks. "We are the Borg, lower your shields and surrender. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile," came the audio message from the Borg ship as it came closer to earth. 'There are too many lives at stake, to just stop fighting and surrender to the Borg,' thought Kataka. By this time twenty of the some one hundred-fifty starships were either destroyed or seriously damaged by Borg weapons fire. Almost 10 000 lives had been lost since the fighting broke out, about 4 hours ago. "Captain! Shields failing, and we have a hull breach on deck 14 section 8!" came the worried cry from Jack Aloota his operations officer, as a work station exploded from behind them sending debris, arches of electricity and smoke into the bridge. In front of him on the view screen he could see other ships attacking the massive Borg ship and getting rocked by they're weapons fire. All of a sudden from out of no where, there was an eerie chill that went up the captain's back. "Captain, we are loosing hull integrity, we have too many hull breaches and the computer can't compensate," yelled the young science officer over the weapons fire and exploding conduits. "Evacuate the ship and head towards the moon, try to keep out of the way of the fighting," ordered Kataka as another ship exploded in front of them. As usual the captain is the last to leave a ship. As the captain left his home for the last six years, a tear slowly trickled down his left cheek. Looking out the window he remembered the first time he had set foot on the bridge of the ship as the captain, the missions he had lead, and all of the wonderful memories that occurred on his ship. Then all of a sudden the ship was gone, enveloped by a large orange fireball. The Borg had destroyed his home and memories. 'I will never be whole again when all of this is over,' he sadly thought to himself. * * * Half an hour later the Enterprise-E entered the fight after the fleet admiral's ship was destroyed. "This is Captain Picard, I am taking command of the fleet. Target these co-ordinates, and fire on my command," came the memorable voice of Captain Picard over subspace. At the sound of his voice Kataka shuddered with fear, remembering Locutus and the battle of Wolf 359 where half the fleet was destroyed at his command. Kataka and the others in the escape pods could clearly hear this, but they couldn't do anything to help. Looking out the window as the ships drilled a large hole into the cube, a small sphere exited and made a run for earth as the larger ship exploded in a green fireball. As the ship made the run for earth, the Enterprise-E pursued. * * * Then all of a sudden the next thing he knew was that he was laying on a bio-bed with a doctor looking him over, in the sick bay on some Starfleet ship. Captain Lockjaw the captain of the starship Jack Rabbit strolled through the sliding doors and came to Kataka who was still laying on the bed recovering from the ordeal. "Captain, How are you feeling?" asked the older woman. "I am as well as I can be. Although I don't remember what happened after I saw the enterprise disappear chasing after the Borg sphere," he told her in a queasy tone of voice. "You are on the starship Jack Rabbit orbiting earth Captain. Captain when you have recovered I have orders to escort you to Admiral Nechayev's office on earth," explained Captain Lockjaw. * * * On earth Admiral Nechayev awaited the arrival of Captain Kataka. Just as she was about to get something to eat from the replicator, the door chimed, "Come in," came the reply as the dish appeared inside the replicator. "Captain. Come in and sit down. I have something to tell you," Nechayev greeted him and he sat down in front of her desk. "Captain I know that there were many ships lost in the last Borg attack, and yours was one of them. I'm sorry but there are no ships that don't already have a captain, so I am transferring you to the academy, as our head combat training instructor." "What! I was in command of a starship for three fucking years, and you're transferring me to a bloody academy position!" exploded Kataka. "Calm yourself down Captain, I haven't fully explained myself," she ordered, trying not to fight back. "As you know I am transferring you to the academy because of your extensive knowledge of martial arts from other cultures," she continued on, "and this is only a temporary assignment. You are dismissed." "There is only one thing that I have to say before I go. Thank you very much Admiral." he said in a sarcastic way as he walked out of her office and into the corridor. ************************************************************************ How do you like it so far? This has been an idea that I've been working on for quite a while now and I finally decided to put it into writing. If you haven't already figured it out this story takes place during and after Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The main ships in this story can be seen on my homepage; http://members.tripod.com/~Plutopia/index.html. Well see you next update.
