New York is a city
of many cultures, a melting pot, so to speak. It is truly the city that
never sleeps. This is a picture of lower Manhattan. The World Trade Center
is in the background. The New York Stock Exchange which is located at Wall
and Broad Streets is the worlds largest stock exchange, trading hundreds
of millions of shares each day. Also located in lower Manhattan is the
Federal Reserve Bank as well as many other banking, insurance and brokerage
institutions.
New York is one
of the world's leading commercial, financial and cultural centers. New
York City is subdivided into five boroughs that are coextensive with 5
counties of New York State. The boroughs are Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens,
Brooklyn and Staten Island. Almost all of the Bronx is situated on the
mainland, but the other boroughs are situated on, or comprise, islands:
Brooklyn and Queens are located on the western end of Long Island. Staten
Island is an entire island by itself. Manhattan is primarily made up of
Manhattan Island, but also includes a small part on the Bronx mainland.
New York has a population
of almost 8 million people. The largest urban population in the United
States.
New York City has
two major airports; John F. Kennedy Int'l Airport (for both domestic and
international flights) and LaGuardia (primarily for domestic flights),
both located in Queens. The city is also served by Newark Int'l Airport
located in Newark, New Jersey.
Also located in
New York City are Radio City Music Hall, The Theatre District, The United
Nations, Central Park, The Empire State building, The Statue of Liberty,
Ellis Island and many other notable landmarks.
New York has some
of the world's finest restaurants. You can get just about
any kind of cuisine here. Also located in lower Manhattan are New York's
world famous Chinatown and Little Italy. I say, if you can't get it in
New York, you can't get it anywhere in the world.
